Scouting For Klopp – 3 Quality Defensive Midfielders Liverpool Could Look To Sign This Summer

Three Defensive Midfielders Who Klopp Can Target This Summer

After a hard-fought season where they managed to qualify for the Champions League, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have some serious improving to do to their squad as they have a number of weak links that need to be erased this summer. Klopp is already looking at a few players to add to his side before the start of the season but one position he should definitely target is the defensive midfield position.

The Reds lack a genuine CDM in their squad, with Lucas Leiva the only player who can play that role. Emre Can is still learning the trade and could come good, but they definitely need a genuine CDM who can add some strength and offer protection to the backline. So who should Liverpool target? Here are three defensive midfielders in Europe who Liverpool should target this summer.

Leandro Paredes (AS Roma)

A product of the Boca Juniors academy, Paredes is one of the most consistent CDMs in Europe right now. He had a stellar campaign with AS Roma in the Serie A and might not be interested in shifting clubs this summer. But the Italian club are in a spot of a bother financially and if Liverpool can offer them incentives, they might be able to land him this summer. Surely, he is one player who can solve Liverpool’s defensive problems to a certain extent.

Ruben Neves (FC Porto)

The 20-year old Portuguese international made his national team debut just this year and was in terrific form for the Portuguese outfit Porto last season. He is a product of the famous Porto Academy and is growing in stature by the year. He was linked with a move to England previously but Liverpool need a CDM now more than ever and they should surely target this beast of a midfielder this summer.

Tiemoue Bakayoko (AS Monaco)

The least feasible and the most expensive option on the list is French midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko. Slowly establishing himself as one of the best in the business in his position, Bakayoko was in sizzling form for the French outfit last season and is ready for a move this summer. He might cost more than £40m, which is a record fee for Liverpool but he has all the attributes to be a success in the Premier League. He is also wanted by Chelsea. So if Liverpool intend to land Bakayoko, they’ll have to act quickly.
