Although the Gunners may have smashed their transfer record in August spending over £40m on Mesut Ozil, the progression and development of future stars remains a large part of the Arsenal philosophy, meaning that we may see one or two youngsters join the Arsenal ranks in the new year.
So here are three possible youngsters that we think might Arsene Wenger should look to bring to the Emirates come this January.
Swiss right-back Fabian Schar may only be 21-years old, but he has already announced himself as a starter for FC Basel and impressed on the international stage with Switzerland. After 2 stellar performances against London rivals Chelsea in the Champions League, he may have just moved up the list of priority signings Wenger has at The Emirates. It is believed that the former FC Wil 1900 man may be available for around £5m (according to this report from Metro), but with Borussia Dortmund thought to be closing in and Inter Milan having an eye on the player as well (According to this report from Guardian), Arsenal must move quickly if they are going to snap the young defender up, though it is more likely he will wait until after the world cup this summer to decide his future.
Real Betis winger Alvaro Vadillo has impressed so far this season, making 7 appearances in La Liga and 4 in the Europa League, it seems the Seville based side are slowly integrating their young star into the first team. Though it has been a tough season for Betis, as they currently lie bottom of La Liga with only 9 points the Spain U21 star has been one of the few positives this season for Beticos. Although Arsenal have the likes of Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla to compete against for a place in the starting XI. Vadillo looks set to be one of the future stars of world football, and further according to his agent, Vadillo wants to join the Gunners this January.
‘Arsenal have not contacted me yet, but of course Alvaro would like to play for Arsenal,’ said Jose Maria Sanchez de Puerta.
‘He is a player that is going to cost a lot of money in the future, and links with a club like Arsenal is totally normal.’
With 8 goals in 9 games this season in the Bundesliga, Pierre-Michel Lasogga is one of the hottest young strikers in Europe right now, and although Olivier Giroud has been scoring frequently this season, Pierre-Michel’s stats are quite impressive for a 21-year old. The on loan striker from Hertha BSC who is playing his trade with Hamburg SV currently has an astounding 77% shot accuracy while the Arsenal man has a meagre 42%. Well the shot accuracy doesn’t really make a big point in Giroud’s case because of his other attributes like his hold up play and defensive contributions in the opposition half. But to have a striker of Pierre- Michel’s calibre on the bench is not a bad option and certainly miles ahead of Bendtner.
He could well be the replacement for Thierry Henry Arsenal have been seeking since 2008. With young Germans Thomas Eisfeld and Serge Gnabry playing in the Arsenal ranks, the Hamburg striker should fit right in and feel at home from the word go.
