Scouting Bruno Peres, A Player Who Eluded Both Tottenham And Manchester City Last Summer

It is not often the clubs in the Premier League miss out on players that they are determined to sign. But recent reports suggest that Premier League duo Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur were interested in the signature of Brazil star Bruno Peres for a move in the summer. The player recently revealed that both clubs had offers for him but that he rejected them to stay in Italy. He is currently an important part of the AS Roma side in the Serie A but who is Peres? Would he have been a decent option in the Premier League? Here is a peek into his scout report to try and get you closer to him:

Background:

Born and brought up in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the 26-year old was one of the most exciting players in the domestic circuit in the country. He started his career at the Audax, an academy in his hometown and made his senior debut for the side back in 2010. After just two years of senior football at the club, most of which were spent out on loan, Peres managed to settle at Santos, another exciting club in Brazil.

He made 38 appearances for the Santos side in his two years at the club and finally managed to get a chance to impress in Europe. He was snapped up but Italian side Torino at the start of the 2014 season and he became an important part of the side in a couple of months. He made more than 60 appearances for the Italian outfit but is currently out on loan at the Rome-based outfit in Italy. He has once again found some decent form at his new club and is back on the radar at the highest level.

Style of Play/ Strengths & Weaknesses:

A right-back by trait, Peres is also comfortable playing on the other flank but is at his best playing on the right side of a back 4. As attacking a full-back as they come, Peres is an exceptional dribbler who loves to take on even the best of the defenders. He is gifted with great technique with the ball at his feet which allow him to be a constant menace in the final third for his opponent.

He is an accurate crosser, which makes him an attractive asset in the Premier League. He also has a great vision that allows him to set up his teammates on goal in dangerous areas, making him an impact player at the back for his side. He is not a player who like to use his strength to hold up the ball and all. He loves to take the attack to the opponents and surely believes that attack is the best form of defense.

He is adept at finding his men at long distances which makes him even bigger a threat but he is not as good in the air as a Premier League defender is required to be. All in all, he is an exciting player who can turn into the potential star, if he plays in a team that plays to his strengths.

What the future holds:

At 26, Peres does not have too many years left under his belt but he will know that he will need just one productive season to be back on the radar. He is yet to be capped for Brazil at any level and only has club commitments to worry about so he will hope that he can put in some consistent performances for Roma from now to the end of the season to try and attract interests from elsewhere yet against this summer. At the moment, he should concentrate on trying to show the world what he is capable of.
