Scout Report: Scott Dann, A Perfect Replacement For John Terry At Chelsea?

Scout Report: Scott Dann

The search for the next John Terry is out in full force while Kurt Zouma and Gary Cahill are doing their best to try and take over from the Chelsea captain, it seems the hierarchy at Chelsea have found a suitable replacement for the English defender.

Instead of going abroad they have picked a player who has had a slow resurgence to the top of the game. Crystal Palace’s Scott Dann is the player who has taken up the mantle it seems to replace John Terry, well that is if we are to believe the tabloids. The former Blackburn defender certainly has his work cut out for him at Palace and his great performances under Alan Pardew have given him an outside chance of moving to Chelsea.

The 28-year-old isn’t the youngest defender in the world but most central defenders mature between 26-28 and Dann seems to be getting better just at the right stage. Dann is a decent defender but is he up for the task of playing for Chelsea?

From Walsall to the Premier League

The then young Dann joined Walsall after he impressed during a trial period but spent a lot of time away from the club on loan at other clubs. He was then signed by Coventry City in 2008 and his impressive stint at the club in the Championship earned him a big money move to then Premier League club Birmingham City.

He impressed here as well and after the club was relegated he joined Blackburn Rovers but he suffered relegation for the third time in his career with the club. He was made the captain in the next season but moved to Crystal Palace in 2014 where he has impressed in Alan Pardew’s side.

He has over 360 career appearances in his career and has also scored 30 goals so far. The 28-year-old English central defender is great at positioning and is known for making great blocks. He is also known to try out a range of long balls and try to hit the opposition and knows when to dive into a tackle and not.

There are a few issues with his game though; he isn’t the best when it comes to aerial duels, especially when up against some of the more physical attackers in the Premier League also his composure on the ball isn’t that great either.

Scott Dann was scouted by many top clubs before he signed on the dotted line at Palace. He might not be at the top of the best central defenders in the league but he is a good choice to have in a team. He probably isn’t the best player to replace John Terry at the club but he can do a good job for Chelsea, especially if he paired with Gary Cahill, the question though remains is that are Chelsea willing to try their luck with him or do they break the bank for a top quality central defender?
