Scout Report: Herbie Kane
After the impact that Harry Kane has had for Tottenham over the last two years, it is time for another Kane to do the same for Liverpool. The Merseyside club recently announced that Herbie Kane, no relation to Harry, has signed his first professional contract with the club.
Liverpool had signed the 17-year-old from Bristol City when he was only 14-years-old but his performances were incredible and he was promoted to the U18 side for the team. Herbie signed for Liverpool and was put into their youth academy where he has excelled over the years and now is all set to make an impact in the first team.
The next Gerrard?
Liverpool have seen many players come and go with the expectations of being the next ‘Steven Gerrard’ but most of them haven’t been anywhere close to the legend that was Gerrard. Herbie though seems to be the next player who is given the unwanted tag of becoming Gerrard’s successor or at least a player who performs in a similar manner.
Herbie plays in the central midfield role and can play in an advanced role or in a defensive role; he is comfortable in either position. Herbie is known for his long-range efforts which is just one reason why he has been named as another player who could take up the Gerrard mantle.
Kane was sought after by many Premier League clubs but it was Liverpool who ensured that he was part of Melwood and now he could be looking to break into the first team. There are many players already in the first team and Kane would probably work with the U21s if there is a need to push him and test his ability at a higher level.
He is an England U18 international and with the manager, Jurgen Klopp looking at youngsters who could get a chance to prove themselves as seen in the Exeter FA Cup clash, Kane would be hopeful that he can get a run out sometime soon for his club.
Liverpool haven’t had many academy graduates coming out and doing well or even staying at the club for long, Raheem Sterling being the latest addition to that list after he was sold to Manchester City but Kane and the rest of the youngsters at Liverpool could usher in another era of academy stars getting the job done for the first team, well at least Kane would hope so.
