The 2017/18 Scottish Premiership season is hurtling fast towards the end. Once again, Celtic have dominated the proceedings and were crowned champions, with arch-rivals Rangers and Aberdeen fighting it out for the second spot. With the season drawing towards a close, here we pick out the best playing XI of the season from the Scottish Premiership.
Recognised as the best goalkeeper in the top-flight this term, the Hearts stopper has managed 13 clean sheets so far – the best tally in the league, and has played a huge hand in the club having the second-best defensive record in the league.
The marauding English right-back has improved massively over the course of the season for Rangers and has grabbed 7 goals and 8 assists in 33 appearances in the Scottish top-flight. His attacking potency was always well-known but defensively too, he has made huge strides.
The Scottish international has arguably been Aberdeen’s best player this term and has shown maturity and composure beyond his tender age of 21. McKenna has made 26 appearances in the Premiership this term, netting 3 times and has been an ever-present in the Dons’ line-up since September last year.
The Hearts captain has been immense in the heart of the backline that saw the club go on a record run of 8 games without conceding. The way he has led the defensive line, marshaling the young John Souttar alongside him has been exceptional. Despite the recent run of poor results, he still stands out as one of the best performers this term.
Crowned the Scottish PFA Young Player of the Year once again for the third year in a row – a feat that nobody has achieved till date, Celtic’s Kieran Tierney has continued from where he left off last campaign. The 20-year old has bagged 4 goals and 9 assists in 38 appearances across all domestic competitions in the 2017/18 campaign.
Nominated for the Scottish PFA Player of the Year award, Celtic winger James Forrest has had a stellar season for the Hoops. With 17 goals and 10 assists in 53 appearances across all competitions, the Scotland international has been one of the chief protagonists of Celtic’s successful campaign.
Crowned the Scottish PFA Player of the Year, Celtic captain Scott Brown seems to be ageing like a fine wine – getting better with age. The 33-year-old who has been with the Hoops for over 10 years now has had one of his best campaigns, leading the team from the front. An ever-present in the team, Brown’s influence on this team has been evident and it isn’t much of a surprise that he went on to win the best player accolade.
The 23-year-old central midfielder has well and truly been the talisman of the Hibs side this season, with his display against the Champions during the first half of the season in a 2-2 draw being one of his best. McGinn has taken the field 40 times for Hibernian this term, coming up with returns of 6 goals and 8 assists in the process.
The third-highest goalscorer in the Premiership with 12 strikes and with a tally of 18 goals and 8 assists across all competitions, Josh Windass has had a tremendous year. Although troubled by bouts of inconsistency, there is no denying that the 24-year-old is unstoppable when on song.
Age is just a number for this 34-year-old Killies striker, who is sitting at the top of the scoring charts in the Premiership with 18 strikes to his name. Boyd has been brilliant leading the line for Kilmarnock and was deservedly nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award.
The Light Blues striker may have tailed off a bit in recent weeks but the start that he had to his debut campaign in Scotland was sensational. Morelos sits only behind Boyd in the scoring charts for the season, with 14 strikes to his name and his all-round play has been quite brilliant, despite some dodgy finishing on occasions.
