Celtic vs Dunfermline report: Celtic match report

Celtic just about saved themselves from a possible disaster after beating lower league side Dunfermline 2-1 after extra-time in the Scottish League Cup second round tie at the Parkhead.

Michael Johnston gave the home side the lead, which was cancelled out by Tom Beadling. However, James Forrest struck in the extra-time to save Neil Lennon’s side from suffering two consecutive shock results at home in four days time.

In a game dominated by Celtic in terms of possession and creation of chances, they were left frustrated by the lack of cutting edge in the final third.

It was in the 55th minute when they took the lead through Johnston, whose cross/shot went into the back of the net. His sombre celebration certainly gave an impression that he didn’t mean to strike it towards goal.

However, in the 77th minute, there was a shock in store when Andy Ryan did well in the wide area and cut it back for Beadling, who dispatched his effort emphatically into the back of the net.

As we went into extra-time, Celtic started bossing the game and eventually got their winner through Forrest in the 114th minute, when his deflected shot had enough in it to beat the Dunfermline keeper.

All in all, it was a less than convincing win for Neil Lennon’s men, who still seem to hurt from their midweek horror show against Cluj. The atmosphere at the Parkhead was sombre throughout the game, which showed that the fans aren’t overly pleased about how their team is functioning.

Here’s how they reacted after this game:
