Rooney set to force a way out?
As each day passes by Wayne Rooney’s future at Old Trafford is fading away. The latest buzz around Manchester is that the England International is set to hand in another transfer request in a bid to leave the club once and for all. As Telegraph’s Henry Winter, quotes
Wayne Rooney is about to make a decision that will affect the rest of his life, not simply the rest of his career. The Manchester United striker is about to make a momentous call that will affect his family greatly, that will shape how he himself is perceived for decades to come. It is a choice that must be taken calmly, not angrily.
However, United do have a say in his future as they have warded off Chelsea’s second attempts with a £30 million bid yesterday. The Red Devils are in a situation that Arsenal were in last year as they are dealing with a wantaway striker who has been a crucial part of the squad for several years. If Mourinho and Chelsea, succeed in their attempts to sign Rooney, United may just end up tasting their own medicine. With an already poor summer window in terms of transfer – in’s, selling Rooney to one of the title rivals could potentially mean they hand over the race to City and Chelsea.
Rooney will stay back at Manchester this evening as the rest of the squad head to Sweden for a pre-season friendly after injuring his shoulder.
A United spokesman told Press Association Sport: “He injured his shoulder in the behind-closed-doors game against Real Betis in Saturday and will not be travelling to Sweden.”
And David Moyes said,
“Wayne hurt his shoulder in a fall during a match on Saturday,” Moyes told the club’s website. “It’s not too serious and I don’t expect it to keep him out for too long.
“I’m disappointed he’s missing the game because we were keen to get him back involved and ready to play.”
If United do end up in a situation that they will be forecd to sell, Moyes will have to make sure that he [Rooney] doesn’t end up at a rival club. However, with PSG, Monaco, Juventus and Barcelona have all signed a big name player, Rooney’s potential suitors are very slim in number and unless Moyes can convince him to stay, which given by their history is not so great, the chances of Rooney donning a Chelsea or even an Arsenal shirt is quite possible.
And on the same matter, the Express reports that the England forward is facing a dressing room heat from his teammates who are not happy with the all news that are circulating around his name. Senior United players are understood to be furious Rooney has undermined preparations for the season by telling David Moyes he wants to leave.
