After holding on to a well-fought point at Anfield, Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United fell to their worst ever defeat this season at the Stamford Bridge in the league this weekend. They were humiliated by Antonio Conte’s Chelsea but Mourinho will know that his team will have to turn their attention towards the League Cup tie against Manchester City on Wednesday. The first time these two teams met this season, Manchester City ran away with all three points and United will hope that they can take some revenge and dump their rivals out of the League Cup early. Here is the lineup that Mourinho might field on the night against Guardiola’s City:

Here is the lineup that Mourinho might field on the night against Guardiola’s City:

Team News:

The manager has confirmed that Eric Bailly and Marouane Fellaini are expected to miss this game along with Wayne Rooney and Morgan Schneiderlin, who missed the game at the weekend. Phil Jones remains sidelined and is the only other issue for Mourinho going into this game.

Sergio Romero:

The manager might look to give David De Gea a rest as he started the last week Europa League tie as well. Hence, Romero should get his chance to start this game against Manchester City.

Antonio Valencia:

Though has been busy in the league, Valencia should start this game at right back against one of the best sides in the competition.

Chris Smalling:

The England international has not had a great time recently but he will be expected to take the responsibility at the back for his side for this game.

Marcos Rojo:

With Eric Bailly set to miss the game following his injury, we might see a little shuffling in the line-up. Daley Blind deserves a rest and his horrible performance against Chelsea supports his cause, hence, Marcos Rojo might make his way up in the game as a centre back.

Luke Shaw:

The injury prone full-back was not even in the squad for the game against Chelsea but is fit enough and should start this game at left-back.

Ander Herrera:

The Spaniard has been one of the best players for United in the midfield this season and is expected to start this game for his side on Wednesday.

Paul Pogba:

The 23-year old had another horrific outing against Chelsea at the weekend but he will get his chance at redemption in this game against Manchester City.

Ashley Young:

After a tedious performance against Liverpool, Young should come back into the squad, after missing out on a place in the game against Chelsea.

Juan Mata:

The Spaniard provided some spark coming in at half-time for United at the Bridge and is expected to start this game as a number 10 for United.

Anthony Martial:

Another player who only got a substitute appearance against Chelsea, Martial is also expected to be in the starting lineup for this Manchester derby.

Marcus Rashford:

The youngster has been impressive for United this season and will be leading the attacking line for his side ahead of Ibrahimovic in this League Cup fixture.
