Riyad Mahrez or Mesut Ozil: Who Should Win The PFA Player Of The Year Award?

Riyad Mahrez or Mesut Ozil or Vardy?

The final stretch to the season is coming and with 12 games remaining, four teams have the chance of making it as Premier League champions. While managers might say that the credit goes to the entire team for making it this far and this close to the title, there are a few individuals who are going to bag honours come the end of the season.

The Player of the Season is one prize which is given to the best player of the season. Eden Hazard won it last year but seems to have gone off the boil but there have been three players who have stood head and shoulders above the rest this season.

Jamie-Vardy-Leicester-City

Leicester pair Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez are just a couple of reasons why the team are flying high at the top of the league standings and Mesut Ozil of Arsenal has found his form and is assisting the team like there is no end to the season.

The decision would be tough but let’s see just who could end up winning the prize this season?

Two Foxes getting Gunned down?

First things first, no one would have expected Leicester to make the record-breaking run that they have this season and the fact that they could still win the league is a marvel in itself. Another marvellous story has been of Jamie Vardy who has kept on scoring and has bagged 19 goals this season for the Foxes.

The 29-year-old’s work rate, energy and lethal finishing have been second to none this season and he even broke Ruud’s record of scoring in consecutive Premier League games, something which might not be broken as easily in the coming years. From playing non-league football to almost taking the team to the title, Vardy is a good bet for the prize but there are two other better contenders.

Mesut Ozil has been mocked for his lack of form since he joined the Gunners but this season the 27-year-old attacker has been the main man for Arsenal, especially due to the lack of form and injuries that have plagued Alexis Sanchez.

Ozil has 17 assists this season from just 24 games and has also bagged four goals in the league, not bad for a player who apparently couldn’t deal with the lack of a winter break in England. The German still has some work to do since Arsenal lie third in the league table and have a crucial UEFA Champions League tie against Barcelona but even he doesn’t get the top honour in this list.

That prize goes to the Algerian Riyad Mahrez, almost a nobody last season, he has turned up the style quotient this season and not only is he providing assists 10 this season but is also scoring important goals for the Foxes with 14 to his name.

Mahrez was incredible against Manchester City, he is deadly with the ball at his feet and is also has an eye for goal. In the battle between the three, the 24-year-old Algerian is just a shade ahead of Ozil and Vardy and he could be crucial to Leicester’s chances of winning the league.

Hopefully, Mahrez and Vardy can win the league this season and also one of them can win the Player of the Season. That would be an incredible story, wouldn’t it?
