REVEALED! Chelsea Wanted Two Englishmen Before Signing Defender, Explains French Media

Chelsea Transfer Updates

The French media have revealed the story of Papy Djilobodji’s move to Chelsea. Based on a report from Le Parisien on Friday it seems that there were several twists before things worked out in the Senegalese international’s favour, as he left Nantes and finally moved to Stamford Bridge. Though it is still not certain whether it was a panic buy or not, the player’s agent insists there was a proper method to completing the deal.

Bouna Ndiaye spoke to the media and stated, “It is not a name that came out of nowhere, Guy Hillion (Chelsea scout) already followed him last season.”

“Mourinho wanted a central lefty, big and hard. Papy was part of a list of three with two English players in front of him. As Chelsea failed to recruit, the name of Djilobodji has emerged.”

One of those two Englishmen is certainly John Stones, but the other one is still a mystery, as there wasn’t really another big name from English origin being linked with the Blues. The club might have been linked in the past to footballers like Ryan Shawcross and Joe Gomez, but nothing too serious.

Le Parisien further added the fact that Hillion lives in Nantes and has a special interest in the local team, helped Djilobodji’s cause as well.
