Report: Rangers set to sign Sporting CP teenager Umaro Balde

Rangers News: Rangers are set to complete the signing of Sporting Lisbon teenager Umaro Balde on a two-year deal. (h/t The Scottish Sun)

Having already made a series of signings, the Light Blues are now set to welcome another exciting talent to Ibrox.

Who is Umaro Balde?

Balde commenced his youth career with Damaiense before opting to move to Sporting in 2014.

He was a part of Sporting’s U-17 side but hasn’t made any first-team appearances.

The Portuguese prospect traditionally plays a defensive midfielder and has impressed the Gers during the trials.

He has also earned 5 caps for Portugal’s U-15 side.

Future at Ibrox

Balde will be expected to start at Ibrox’s youth set-up and can follow the footsteps of  Nathan Young-Coombes, Middleton and Dapo Mebude, who have broken into the first-team after impressing at youth

Steven Gerrard‘s first season in Glasgow has been brilliant despite a lack of silverware. The former Liverpool man had some moments to cherish like the two Old Firm derby wins at Ibrox.

Furthermore, the ex-England international has proved to be one who encourages and promote young talents.

The Light Blues are also due to receive the services of Sheyi Ojo and Jake Hastie with the former one being loaned from Liverpool.
