Report: PSG Reveals Bid For Arsenal Playmaker

Arsenal stunned the whole football world by signing Mesut Ozil for their club record fee of £42.5m on the deadline day. PSG and Manchester United were also interested in signing the assist king, but it was Arsene Wenger who managed to convince the German star into joining the Gunners. By moving to Arsenal, Ozil became the costliest German footballer ever.

Now, Paris Saint-Germain manager Laurent Blanc openly admitted their defeat in Ozil transfer. PSG was also rumored to be interested in Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata. But Blanc denied any such interest was shown from their side.

When asked about Ozil and Mata, he replied,

“Both of them would have done us good. The only attempt made, as far as I know, was for Ozil,”

Even with the failure to bring Ozil, PSG still had a super transfer window as they signed Edinson Cavani from Napoli, Roma defender Marquinhos and full-back Lucas Digne for a combined fee of  £100m.

Blanc continued,

“In the off-season we signed Marquinhos, who plays in the same position. There were five central defenders for two places, so there was one too many. I said it to him. Initially, Mamadou accepted the competition. But we’re in a World Cup year, and I know what that can produce in a player. He wanted to leave PSG to have more game time. He made a choice. He chose a very big club in Liverpool. I wish him the best,”

PSG are getting ready to face fellow big spenders from France – Monaco on Sunday. Monaco are currently leading the Ligue 1 league table with 13 points two ahead of PSG.
