With Giroud injured for next few months after undergoing a foot surgery, Arsenal are forced to scout for a striker in the transfer market. Mattia Destro from Roma is the latest striker who is linked with a move to Emirates.
The 23-year-old is regarded as one of the rising starts from Serie A and he has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea but Arsenal are plotting to steal the target from their London neighbours.
Here is an abstract from an article from Chiesaditotti which summaries how good Destro is.
“You don’t need a PhD to dissect Destro’s game; he’s as true a striker as you’ll find in the game today, making his home right at the goal mouth. But it’s what he does once he’s there that is so impressive. Destro was incredibly accurate and efficient inside the area last season, particularly when you consider how little of the ball he actually saw.”
“And it’s precisely because of those movements many have labeled him as a poacher, which is selling his abilities and intellect short. Whatever label we assign him, Destro just seems to be able to read the game from 10,000 feet, to see the forest for the trees, not only knowing when and where to be to grab a goal, but knowing and understanding how to manipulate space, and how his movements impact his chances and those of his teammates. These aren’t easily quantifiable traits, granted, but they go miles in determining the efficiency, effectiveness and success of Garcia’s offense.”
Destro is valued at £19 million and if Arsenal can beat Chelsea in the transfer race, it will be a huge boost for them in the title race.
According to latest reports, Arsenal are also closing in on PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot. The 19 year old can play anywhere in central midfield. He may not be an instant solution to Arsenal’s defensive issues in midfield, but he is definitely a talent worthy enough to look forward in future. Typical Arsene Wenger type player.
