Report: Arsenal Back In For Brazilian Tackler As Wenger Sends His Scouts To Watch Him Play

A mediocre performance at Istanbul followed by a brittle display at Goodison park has left Arsene Wenger with no options but to dig deep into the transfer market in search of a defensive midfielder. After having missed out on the signing of Sami Khedira and with no further improvements over other targets, Wenger is prepared to move back to his former target Luiz Gustavo, who moved Wolfsburg last season.

DailyMirror reports that, Arsene Wenger has made an enquiry about the Brazilian and sent out his scouts to check on the midfielder in their Bundesliga opener against Bayern Munich. The Brazilian was heavily linked with the Gunners last summer, but chose to stay at Germany after Wenger refused to give assurances of regular playing time.

Arsenal are in dire need of a defensive midfielder and Mikel Arteta’s injury has just made matters worse for Arsene Wenger. Apart from Mathieu Flamini, the Gunners doesn’t have a recognized tackler and a ball winner in the middle of the park and heading into the season with an ageing Flamini and Arteta would be a disaster and the money spent on Alexis Sanchez and other reinforcements will go in vain.

There have also reports that Wolfsburg is showing interest in Lukas Podolski and Arsenal should use this to their advantage. With the arrival of Sanchez and the presence of Cazorla and Alex-Ox Chamberlain, Podolski’s game time is very much questionable this season and a move either on loan or permanent would be ideal for both the parties.
