Realistic, Dream and Wildcard options for Leicester City in their hunt for a new boss – Who should replace Claude Puel?

Leicester opinion: Who should replace Claude Puel?

After just 1 win in Leicester City’s last 8 games, Claude Puel was sacked by the Foxes hierarchy on Sunday. Puel joined Leicester in October 2017 after spending a season with fellow Premier League side Southampton.

Puel finished his first season with the club in 9th place and was considered a success by the Foxes. But after a poor second season with the club, the Frenchman parted ways with Leicester. The hunt for Puel’s successor is on and here are a few options.

The realistic one: Brendan Rodgers

The former Liverpool boss is currently managing Scottish giants Celtic and would be a good option to take over at the King Power. Rodgers would bring in Premier League experience after having managed Swansea and Liverpool in the past.

Although his final season at Anfield was a dismal one which led to his sacking, Rodgers’ quality as a manager cannot be questioned and his appointment is the most realistic option for Leicester City.

The unrealistic one: Rafa Benitez

Another former Liverpool boss, Benitez is doing a brilliant job at Newcastle with minimal resources.

Benitez has won the Champions League with Liverpool, the Europa League with Chelsea and the La Liga with Valencia in his illustrious career but his biggest achievement, however, is his remarkable job at Newcastle where he brought the side back to the Premier League after their relegation in 2016.

Benitez’s future is always in the news but the Spaniard is unlikely to move before the end of the season. Benitez, although unrealistic, should be an option for the Foxes.

The dream: Domenico Tedesco

Regarded as one of the best young coaches in world football, Tedesco’s Schalke have had a poor season so far as they sit in 14th place. Despite the disappointing season with the Royal Blues, Tedesco is a brilliant tactician and has the potential to do wonders at Leicester.

The Schalke boss is under contract till 2022 and is a highly unlikely candidate but if Leicester ever want to reach the heights they did a few years ago, he is the kind of manager they should be looking at.

The wildcard: Claudio Ranieri

A Leicester City legend, a fan favourite and the man who made the impossible, possible – Claudio Ranieri back to the King Power would be the stuff of dreams. The Italian left the club in February 2017 but has been fondly remembered.
