Ranieri joining hands with his former protege would solidify Fulham’s midfield

Why Fulham should sign Danny Drinkwater from Chelsea

Fulham have made a perfect start to life under Claudio Ranieri. A thrilling 3-2 win over fellow strugglers Southampton was what the doctor ordered for the Cottagers. They are still in the drop zone but that victory would give them the belief and confidence to march on and compete better in the coming matches.

The change in manager has its own positive air, with players being extra eager to prove themselves and remain in the starting line-up for as long as they can.

Despite that, it is fairly evident that the ex-Leicester City boss should strengthen once the January transfer window opens, especially in the defensive and central midfield department.

Here’s why the London-based club should buy Danny Drinkwater – a former Premier League title winner under Ranieri at Leicester:

Danny Drinkwater

Drinkwater to Fulham would be a win-win situation

Danny Drinkwater has struggled to break into the Chelsea eleven ever since he joined the club. In fact, he hasn’t featured for the Blues this season under new manager Maurizio Sarri. It just goes on to show he is surplus to requirement at Stamford Bridge and must move on to get some game time.

If Fulham come calling, the 28-year-old shouldn’t think twice before moving to Craven Cottage. He would get to play under a manager he became a Premier League champion with. Ranieri would know about the player, his strengths and his weaknesses and would deploy him accordingly.

If the midfielder arrives at the Cottage, he could play games on a regular basis, which would be fruitful for the Englishman.

For the Cottagers, they would get a quality midfield player whose versatility, tenacity and know-how of the new manager will come in handy. The London club are still in the drop zone and probably need someone like Drinkwater to arrive at the club and revitalise their defensive midfield which has been a weak part thus far. Football acca tips suggest that Drinkwater might have another useful role to play under Ranieri, so get your betting minds right on and have a crack.

There is no point for Drinkwater to stay at a club and work under a manager who doesn’t even feature him in cup games. The added essence of working with a manager he accomplished a miracle with should be enough of an enticing factor.
