Rangers News: Former Celtic striker Andy Walker says Rangers are playing well even without Alfredo Morelos

Morelos has been pivotal for Steven Gerrard this season, bagging 25 goals and four assists, across all competitions this season.

The Colombian, however, remains a controversial figure, in terms of discipline, as he has received five red cards so far.

And the 22-year-old is currently serving his ban, following his altercation with the Hoops skipper Scott Brown in the Old Firm derby last month.

The Light Blues have picked up three massive wins, even in the absence of the Colombian forward.

Jermain Defoe has risen to the occasion, scoring 2 goals in three outings.

The 36-year-old was bought on loan from Bournemouth, earlier this season.

Andy Walker said, (h/t The Sun)

“As you saw at the weekend, Rangers with Jermain Defoe up in attack, I thought he led the line really well.

“I thought you had players like Candeias and Arfield getting up in support of him really well and Rangers played a lot of good football.

Alongside Defoe, Scott Arfield was also outstanding, as he scored a hat-trick against Motherwell.

The Canadian midfielder has now scored 11 goals and provided 6 assists in more than 20 appearances this season.

Walker further heaped praises on Defoe. (h/t The Sun)

Morelos can occupy a back four all on his own. But I think there is a different style to Rangers when Defoe plays.

“It’s more on the ground. It’s more free-flowing. There’s more movement. There’s more mobility.”

The former England international has bagged seven goals and two assists in just 13 appearances for the Light Blues this season.

Gerrard also said that Defoe would be one of his key players in the forthcoming season.

The Gers will play Aberdeen in their next Premiership fixture this weekend. And a win would definitely delay the Bhoys.
