Rangers signing this talented 22-year-old would be a great move for the future by Gerrard

Rangers opinion: Gers in for Max Lowe – Good move?

According to a report in Daily Star, Rangers are considering Max Lowe’s Aberdeen as the Derby County loanee aims to potentially switch his allegiances to Scotland.

Steven Gerrard’s men are interested in signing the young left-back ahead of next season. He impressed in Scottish top-flight for Aberdeen and has attracted the interest of the Gers (h/t Daily Star).

However, Derby are not ready to lose him on a permanent basis. He may be loaned out for a season or two, but Frank Lampard sees his future at Pride Park (h/t Daily Star).

Seeing how he developed in Scotland, the Rams wouldn’t mind the 22-year-old staying in that league for at least one more year. Even though Aberdeen aim to keep the player, Gerrard’s men have come in between and are themselves looking to make a move (h/t Daily Star).

Here’s why Rangers would be right to offer a loan deal to Lowe this summer:

Left-back needs some sorting for the Gers

Out of the three left-back options Rangers have in their squad, only Andy Halliday is expected to remain at the club. Lee Wallace will leave the club and Borna Barisic may follow suit in this transfer window.

Gerrard has deployed Jon Flanagan in that position, but it is clear that the former Liverpool man is not a left-back by trade. Hence, it would make sense for the Gers to sign a new left-back, be it on a loan deal or on a permanent basis.

For that reason, Max Lowe seems like a viable option. The 22-year-old has done extremely well at Aberdeen in the Scottish league, thus, he possesses the experience of playing in the same league as Rangers.

The Derby man is an attack-minded left-back who can play as a winger if required.

He has good pace to make runs up and down the pitch and catch the runs of opposite wingers in a foot race. His one-on-one defending is good and he can stop crosses from the wide areas.

On the ball, Lowe possesses good dribbling skills and crossing accuracy in the final third.

Conclusion

All in all, Rangers can have a dynamic left-back in their squad if they manage to sign Max Lowe this summer.
