Quiet Performance From Mata – The Best And The Worst Rated Manchester United Players vs West Ham United

Share

Manchester United failed in their efforts to close down the huge gap between them and the table leaders as they could only settle for a draw against West Ham at home.

An early goal from the visitors just within 2 minutes after kickoff proved too much for the hosts, and despite Zlatan pulling them level about 20 minutes later, it wasn’t enough to inspire a victory. United have now gone 4 consecutive home league games without a win. Something that last happened in 1990.

Things got worse for the Red Devils as Mourinho got sent away from the technical box after his emotions got the better of him.

Manchester United are now 11 points behind league leaders Chelsea, and here is how the players fared in the stalemate.

De Gea

Couldn’t do anything but watch Sakho’s header sail past him into the net after Payet delivered a perfect cross into the box from his free kick.

Had nothing much to do afterwards, but could have conceded a 2nd after failing to deal with a corner properly. Was however at alert to keep Fletcher’s low strike out with few minutes to go.

Rating : 7/10

Valencia

Made his usual forward dashes all through the game and delivered nice crosses into the box, but nothing could be made of them.

Rating : 6/10

Jones

Dedicated display from the centre-half who made sure the Hammers’ attackers had not much freedom to trouble the goal.

Rating : 7/10

Rojo

Didn’t put a foot wrong and wasn’t spectacular either. Had very little defending to do.

Rating : 6/10

Darmian

Wasn’t any productive going forward but did well at the back to keep things level for the Red Devils. Could still be preferred to Shaw in the Premier League for the time being.

Rating : 6/10

Herrera

Had a great game even though he committed few fouls that helped break play anytime West Ham mustered to make anything meaningful while on the attack.

Rating : 7/10

Pogba

Completed a lot of dribbles and assisted Zlatan’s goal with a beautiful lob, but got himself and the coach into trouble after diving in order to escape Noble’s challenge. He was shown a yellow card as a result.

And Mourinho reacted violently to the booking by kicking away a water bottle in anger, leaving Jon Moss with no choice than to send him off.

Rating : 7/10

Lingard

A tireless display from the youngster all through the 85 minutes he spent in the action. But for Randolph’s intervention, the winger could have put United in the lead with a well-struck shot having beaten Kouyate and Ogbonna during the first period.

Rating : 7/10

Mata

Had a very quiet 2nd half after a solid performance before the break, and had to be replaced with Mkhitaryan in the 65th minute.

Rating : 5/10

Rashford

Caused a lot of problem for West Ham’s defence before his withdrawal alongside Mata, but he missed a one-on-one chance after been played through on goal with only Randolph to beat.

Rating : 6/10

Ibrahimovic

Scored his 7th goal of the season with a well-placed header, and had a solid performance as he tried to link up play with the other forwards. United may not be wrong in planning to extend his contract after all.

Rating : 8/10

SUBSTITUTES

Mkhitaryan

Returned to EPL action since September and almost changed the game with his displays.

Rating : 6/10

Rooney

A great game from United’s skipper as the team pushed for a winner upon his introduction. None came.

Rating : 6/10

Fellaini

Came on with only 5 minutes to go with United keen to defend and secure a draw, but could have made matters worse as he tripped Noble just at the edge of the box.

Rating : 4/10
