Derby County returned to winning ways with a good 2-0 victory over Luton Town at Pride Park. Matty Pearson’s own goal and a goal from Tom Lawrence sealed the deal for the Rams, who now jump up to 13th place in the table.
After a decent start to the game, the Rams took the lead in the 11th minute after a Pearson backpass was allowed into his own net by the Hatters keeper Simon Sluga. He just took his eyes off the ball to let that accident happen.
Luton had a chance to equalise in the 19th minute when James Bree picked out James Collins with a low cross. However, the latter fired his effort from six yards out, much to his own disappointment.
After that, the away side struggled to create chances to test a new-look Derby back-line. Ryan Tunnicliffe had an opportunity but his effort was fired narrowly off target.
In the 70th minute, Lawrence, who was playing for the first time at Pride Park since his drink drive incident, scored the game-clinching goal with a cross-cum-shot that flew past helpless Sluga.
Thereafter, the Rams saw the game out with Luton not laying much of a glove to retrieve a two-goal deficit.
