Why Queens Park Rangers should make a move for Lyndon Dykes

According to Daily Mail, Queens Park Rangers are one of the Championship clubs interested in signing Livingston striker Lyndon Dykes.

Lyndon Dykes, 24, has scored four goals in 13 Scottish Premiership matches and netted once in two Scottish League Cup ties for Livingston this season. Back in October, the forward scored for Livingston in their surprise 2-0 home win against defending champions Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

The report adds that scouts from Middlesbrough, Cardiff and Hull have checked on the Australian, who can operate as a forward or as an attacking midfielder. Nonetheless, Queens Park Rangers must do everything possible to win Dykes’ signature in January.

QPR have endured an inconsistent campaign and currently are 13th in the table. They lost 5-3 away to Barnsley in the Championship at the weekend, ending a run of back-to-back wins for the West Londoners.

Mark Warburton’s side are just four points off the final playoff spot and if they can stitch a run of positive results from here on and invest smartly in the January transfer window, QPR certainly can get into the top six by May.

One of the crucial areas Warburton should address next month is the forward department, with the likes of Eberechi Eze, Nahki Wells and Jordan Hugill needing more support.

Keeping that in mind, Lyndon Dykes would be a smart fit at QPR. Dykes only joined Livingston from Queen of the South this past summer and is contracted until 2022.

His impressive start to life in the Scottish top-flight has rightfully earned him some attention ahead of the January transfer window.

The Australia-born forward has the qualities to thrive in the physical and taxing nature of Championship football. He can score goals, link-up play and operate in different positions across the front-line.

Dykes has done well so far in his debut season in Scotland and at 24 years of age, he can still improve and develop his game.

Verdict

QPR aren’t a long way off from getting into the top six and that should be Warburton’s aim. Signing a player like Dykes would go a long way towards that cause.
