Projected Chelsea Lineup To Face Stoke City: Matic And Ramires To Start In Pivot

Chelsea vs Stoke City: Predicted Lineup

The Premier League returns to our living rooms after the humdrum international break, and for league leaders Chelsea, it should be about getting the basics right for the remainder of the season as they sit six points clear of second placed Manchester City with a game in hand.

Jose Mourinho’s side have looked in imperious form this season, boasting a resilient defence and a top quality attacking unit and they would be expected to pick up all three points when Mark Hughes’ Stoke City make the trip to London.

Here’s how the Blues are expected to line up against Stoke.

Goalkeeper – Thibaut Courtois

Jose Mourinho’s first name on the team sheet, although the Belgian would be looking to make amends after a sloppy error against Hull City before the international break.

Defence – Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta.

Branislav Ivanovic has been ever present for the Blues this season, popping up with crucial goals from time to time. Gary Cahill has improved since facing the axe after the Champions League elimination at the hands of PSG, and should start this one. John Terry and Cesar Azpilicueta complete a solid looking backline.

Midfield – Matic, Ramires, Willian, Fabregas, Hazard.

With Oscar having faded away towards the business end of the season, Ramires’ pace and energy in midfield could be key to Chelsea’s title charge. The massive unit of Nemanja Matic will shield the back four allowing Cesc Fabregas’ attacking talents to come to the fore in an advanced position.

Willian’s work rate has been exceptional this season, and despite not having found the net as often, the Brazilian is a key component of the team. Eden Hazard is the driving force in the Chelsea side, a menace for defenders with his pace and dribbling ability.

Striker – Diego Costa

Diego Costa should enjoy playing against the likes of Stoke. The Brazilian likes to take on defenders and put himself about and against the bullish Stoke defenders, that’s one contest everyone will have their eyes on.
