Premier League Team Of The Week Featuring Chelsea, Arsenal & Southampton Stars – Game Week 8

Goalkeeper:

Joe Hart

Joe Hart may have had some bad moments in recent seasons, but he made several key saves at the weekend to give his side a platform to win the game comfortably. Many will point to the influence of Sergio Aguero on the match, yet Hart saved a penalty, and prevented Tottenham getting a second goal during a stage when they were very much in the game, both Ryan Mason and Roberto Soldado had shots brilliantly saved by Hart.

Defenders:

Seamus Coleman

The Everton right back is one of the best in the division, and he certainly offers the most goal threat. His return from injury will be huge for Everton, who have struggled so far. He gives the side balance, while his defending is also an asset, as he is rarely beaten by wingers, but his main attribute is his ability to score goals. The Irishman often makes late runs to get in behind defences and convert crosses like he did on Saturday.

Craig Dawson

Craig Dawson has come a long way in recent seasons, as he is starting to establish himself as a key player for the Baggies. On Monday night he played well to dominate both Robin van Persie and Falcao for large portions of the game. His reading of the game was exceptional as he cut out several good opportunities for Manchester United before they even managed to get the shot away, while he was also decent in the air.

Steven Taylor

After being sat on the bench for Newcastle’s poor start, an injury to Mike Williamson opened up a place in the team for Steven Taylor, who was one of the standout players on Saturday. He looked assured in possession, always on the front foot looking to start attacks for the home side. He marshaled Leonardo Ulloa very well, limiting him to very few chances, while a brilliant block towards the end of the match stopped a potential equaliser for Leicester.

Aaron Cresswell

The West Ham player was brilliant on Saturday getting up and down the pitch, making several key contributions in both halves. He is a great defender, as he rarely lets wingers get past him, he has made the step up to the Premier League with ease. It’s easy to see why West Ham signed him as he supports attacks and he made a great assist this weekend, with a brilliant cross that was headed in by Diafra Sakho.
