Predicted Newcastle United XI To Face Liverpool In The Premier League

Newcastle United will be hoping to continue their unbeaten run as they travel Anfield to face Liverpool FC this weekend.

The Magpies are currently unbeaten in their last four Premier League matches, despite winning only one of them, and will be looking to extend that run to five games. They are currently dawdling in 15th position, with head coach Rafa Benitez hoping for a turnaround this weekend.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have been in impeccable form in the last few matches, winning three on the trot as well as scoring 11 goals in the process. They are also unbeaten in their last 16 home matches, making the job even more difficult for Newcastle.

The Reds will have the chance to potentially climb up to the second place should Manchester United fail to win against Crystal Palace this weekend.

Team News

Visitors Newcastle United will be without the services of right-back Jesus Gamez as well as star striker Islam Slimani. Slimani is yet to make his Newcastle debut after completing his loan move earlier this year.

Elsewhere, a knee injury will keep Jonjo Shelvey out this weekend against his former club while defender Ciaran Clark returned to the matchday squad last week.

Formation: 5-4-1

Expect Newcastle to operate in the same fashion as they did in their match against Manchester City, meaning a 5-4-1 formation could be on the cards this weekend. It will be interesting to see who leads the line for the Magpies this weekend, with both Dwight Gayle and Joselu being potential candidates.

Probable Newcastle United XI

Coach: Rafael Benitez

Martin Dubravka (GK)

Martin Dubravka will be the man between the sticks for Newcastle United this week. The Slovakian keeper, who joined the club in January has been the club’s No.1 choice so far and it’ll be no different this week.

DeAndre Yedlin (RWB)

The American will be deployed as a right wingback. His pace and agility will be key as he looks to keep check of the pacy Sadio Mane on the right flank.

Jamaal Lascelles (RCB)

The Newcastle captain is a tremendous presence at the back. He will lead the backline as they look to stop Liverpool’s dangerous front trio.

Florian Lejeune

Florian Lejeune (CB)

Florian Lejeune has normally been Newcastle’s first-choice centre-back alongside Lascelles this season and this should remain as such. The French defender will look to mark the dangerous Roberto Firmino, who can definitely prove to be a handful for the Magpies defence.

Ciaran Clark (LCB)

Ciaran Clark, who returned to the matchday squad last week, might be given a starting berth. He will start alongside Jamaal Lascelles and Florian Lejeune in central defence. The former Aston Villa defender has decent experience in the English top flight, which might prove to be useful this weekend.

Paul Dummett (LWB)

Paul Dummett will be deployed as the left wingback. The 26-year-old will be tasked with the responsibility of stopping Mohamed Salah, who has arguably been the best player in the Premier League this season.

Matt Ritchie (RM)

The onus will be on Matt Ritchie to provide the necessary attacking fire while the entire team capitalises on defending the powerful attacking lineup of Liverpool. The former Bournemouth attacker has the quality to create a chance for himself and changes the whole complexion of the game.

Isaac Hayden (CDM)

Isaac Hayden will be tasked with the job of replacing the injured Jonjo Shelvey in the defensive midfield position. The 22-year-old could prove to be a key defensive outlet for the Magpies in the middle of the park.

Mohamed Diame

Mohamed Diame (CM)

Isaac Hayden should be partnered by Mohamed Diame in central midfield. Diame’s defensive work rate coupled with his tenacity could be ideal to stop Liverpool’s flow in the middle third of the pitch.

Kenedy (LM)

Since his loan from Chelsea, Kenedy has emerged as a key player for the Magpies this season, featuring in all of the matches so far. His technical qualities could prove to be useful against this Liverpool backline, who have been quite tentative at times.

Dwight Gayle (ST)

Former Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle will lead the line for the Magpies this weekend. Gayle scored a brace in their last game against Bournemouth and the onus will be on him to provide the finishing touch to whatever Newcastle create in the final third.
