Predicted Manchester United Starting XI vs Liverpool – Carrick, Mata & Fellaini In The Middle

Louis Van Gaal

Love him or hate him but Louis Van Gaal has helped Manchester United push up the table and now they sit in third position after their Monday night win over Southampton. Although Manchester United were second best for most of the game, they still won 2-1 thanks to a brace from Robin Van Persie.

They face their greatest rivals Liverpool on Sunday at Old Trafford. Liverpool have been nowhere near the team they were last season and look quite lost and confused in attack and defence. It would be a massive upset if Liverpool repeat last season’s performance when they won 3-0 at Old Trafford. This Liverpool team might be for the taking and here is the predicted Manchester United line up with Louis Van Gaal continuing with his back 3 which he has been using extensively this season.

David De Gea

There really is no doubt that De Gea has been one of the best United player’s this season if not the best. He has single handedly kept United in many games and was excellent against Southampton as well, he may not face a lot of attacks from a stuttering Liverpool team though but if he does, he will be at the top of his game.

Paddy McNair

The Northern Irish defender started for United in the last game but was substituted early on, he still has a lot to learn having been thrown from the deep end by Louis Van Gaal but he should get to start against Liverpool.

Jonny Evans

Jonny Evans

He started on the bench but was brought on due to Chris Smalling going off injured against Southampton and with the lack of defenders in central defence; Evans should start for the Manchester club on Sunday.

Marcos Rojo

A Van Gaal signing, he still might be getting used to the Premier League but he has done alright since he made his debut for United. The Argentine would be getting the first taste of the derby when he comes on to face the old enemy.

Michael Carrick

The English midfielder seems to be finding his rhythm in midfield once again. Although he wasn’t at his best against Southampton, the midfielder will be up to take on Liverpool.

Ashley Young

Ashley Young seems to have found another lease of life under Louis Van Gaal, often operating as a wing back to help the defence; he should keep his starting place for the weekend.

Antonio Valencia

A player who will run up and down the flanks, Antonio Valencia will do the exact same thing as Ashley Young, helping the defence and offense when needed. Valencia and Young would have to be on top of their games and Van Gaal will have them drilled well.

Marouane Fellaini

The Belgian looked to be on his way out this season but he has been performing as well as any United player this season. He looks much better in the midfield role when compared to the last season and Louis Van Gaal might have found a way to get the best out of the midfielder.

Juan Mata

Another player touted to be leaving the club; Mata has been one of the best players for the club and looks to have cemented a starting position thanks to his impressive displays this season coupled with Di Maria’s absence.

Wayne Rooney

The captain of the club, unless Rooney is injured he is a sure shot to start for Manchester United.

Robin Van Persie

It seemed he had lost his touch but he has regained it. Robin was brilliant against Southampton and he took his chances brilliantly by scoring a couple of great goals, like the old Robin Van Persie. Liverpool better be prepared for the Flying Dutchman.
