Predicted Sunderland Lineup To Face Sheffield Wednesday In EFL Championship
Sunderland under Simon Grayson have done plenty so far to remove some of the doom and gloom feeling around Wearside and their 3-1 win at Norwich will have gone a long way towards giving his players confidence to make this year’s playoffs.
They face a stern test this time at Hillsborough though against an Owls side who probably feel they need a big result now so as to not fall down the pecking order in the Championship after an encouraging season last time around.
Grayson will very probably stick with the same XI he played at Norwich in his favoured 4-4-2 formation:

GK – Jason Steele
Currently keeping Ruiter out of the side, he is doing well between the sticks. Should start again.
RB – Billy Jones
Another solid display can be expected from Jones and will support Honeyman down the right-hand side.
CB – Tyias Browning
The on-loan Everton man has made a good start and can only get better as the season goes on. This is another big test for him.
CB – Lamine Kone
Despite some very public criticism, Kone has so far played his part in the club garnering four points from their opening two games.
LB – Brendon Galloway
Another on-loan Everton player and another who is doing alright at present, he should start this game for Sunderland.
RM – George Honeyman
Not many expected him to start the season in the team in this position, but Grayson insists he is doing so on merit and he should continue against Sheffield Wednesday.
CM – Ibrahim Ndong
Forming a partnership with Cattermole, this one will need to be at its best in this game.
CM – Lee Cattermole
The skipper will carry on in his midfield role and provide the sort of anchor that is required.
LM – Aiden McGeady
Yet another former Everton man, this time one who did very well at this level with Grayson at Preston last season and who has started off very well with his new club. He is expected to continue in his left-wing role, cutting in onto his favoured right foot.
ST – Lewis Grabban
Already at this level, a reputation is growing with Grabban and Vaughan becoming a good strike-force and it’ll be interesting to see how it pans out over the course of the rest of the season.
ST – James Vaughan
Although going somewhat under the radar, Vaughan has looked like a good signing over the opening two games and will use his movement to unsettle the Wednesday centre-backs.
