Predicted Germany Lineup To Face Spain In International Friendly

In what will be the clash between two winners of the last two World Cups, Germany will host Spain in Dusseldorf, as coaches get their final chance to assess their respective teams before the upcoming FIFA World Cup this summer.

Both the teams have been earmarked as favourites for the upcoming World Cup, boasting strong players who are more than capable of winning the coveted tournament. Therefore, it would surely be one of the fascinating games to look forward to.

Germany, who are the defending champions of this tournament, will be coming into this game, hoping to play few off their star players. All eyes will be on Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who could be Germany’s No.1, should Manuel Neuer miss the tournament.

Spain, on the other hand, will be looking to prevent a repeat of the previous World Cup debacle in Brazil, where they were knocked out in the group stages. Therefore, a clash against a strong Germany could give them some vital headstart as they prepare themselves for an intriguing World Cup campaign ahead.

Team News

Emre Can picked up a back injury in Liverpool’s 5-0 win over Watford on Sunday. Therefore, he remains a doubt for the Spain clash but he should be fine for their next game against Brazil. Jonas Hector and Marvin Plattenhardt, on the other hand, will battle for a starting spot in the left-back position.

Here’s the Germany squad for this international friendlies.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Head coach Joachim Low will have the opportunity to choose between a three or a four-man backline this week but the former Stuttgart coach could opt for the latter in order to mirror Spain’s preferred 4-3-3 formation by applying the classic 4-2-3-1 shape he used in the 2014 World Cup.

Probable Germany XI

Coach: Joachim Low

Marc-Andre ter Stegen (GK)

The onus will be on the Barcelona keeper to fill the rather big boots of Manuel Neuer between the sticks. The former Gladbach man has performed incredibly well this season and will be looking to keep his form intact against the Spaniards this week.

Joshua Kimmich (RB)

One of Germany’s golden boys coming into this World Cup, Joshua Kimmich is sure to catch some attention in this year’s FIFA World Cup. The Bayern Munich defender has emerged as a very good replacement for Philipe Lahm in the right-back position this season and his presence will be key as Germany look to keep Spain at bay.

Jerome Boateng (RCB)

Jerome Boateng should start against Spain this week. The former Man City defender has had a topsy-turvy season with Bayern this campaign but his strong defensive presence will always be crucial for Die Mannschaft.

Jerome Boateng

Mats Hummels (LCB)

Jerome Boateng’s Bayern Munich teammate, Mats Hummels should partner him in central defence. Hummels has arguably been the best German defender this campaign and his build-up qualities at the back will play a pivotal role in the possession phases.

Marvin Plattenhardt (LB)

Hertha fullback Marvin Plattenhardt might get the nod ahead of Jonas Hector this week. While the latter may boast better ball playing qualities, Plattenhardt’s mobility on the flanks will be ideal.

Sami Khedira (CDM)

Sami Khedira should be instilled as the main holding midfielder for the home side. The Juventus midfielder has tremendous composure and temperament in the middle of the park, which will likely help him prevail against the mighty Spaniards.

Toni Kroos (CDM)

Toni Kroos’ presence alongside Sami Khedira works as a perfect catalyst for the German national team in terms of ball circulation as well as chance creation. The Real Madrid star is blessed with phenomenal passing range, which has been hugely useful for the home side for the past few years.

Leroy Sane (RW)

Leroy Sane should be chosen ahead of Julian Draxler for the right-wing position. The Manchester City youngster is one of the hottest prospects in world football at the moment and therefore, it will be interesting to see how he fares against this well disciplined Spain defence.

Mesut Ozil

Ilkay Gundogan (CAM)

Joachim Low might just opt to have Ilkay Gundogan in the advanced midfield position just because of the fact that the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder is capable of being assured in possession even in the tightest of spaces. His intricate link-up play might work wonders for the home side, especially with the likes of Sane and Ozil supporting him in the attacking third.

Mesut Ozil (LW)

Mesut Ozil has always been a key component in the Germany team, ever since his national team debut. The Arsenal superstar will be Germany’s main source of creativity this week.

Timo Werner (ST)

Timo Werner should be tasked with the responsibility of leading the line for the hosts this week. Currently regarded as the best German striker by a country mile, Werner’s tenacity could make a huge difference as Germany look to unlock the Spain defence.
