Possible Holland Lineup vs Argentina – Manchester United Star Is A Doubt For The game

Share

Who would take the field at the Maracana against the ruthless Germans on the 13th to lift the most coveted and sought after title in World football? A LIONEL Messi against Louis Van Gaal battle is set on the cards as winners take all in what promises to be an encounter which will have history looming large over it. While Javier Mascherano has insisted that the Albiceleste aren’t depended on torch bearer Lionel Messi to get the result, the Barcelona star himself knows that he is two games away from being placed among equals with the legendary Diego Maradona? Here we present the possible  Holland lineup against the South American counterparts who will give their all to slice a piece of history of their own and a consecutive World cup final appearance.

Louis Van Gaal

Goalkeeping:

Jasper Cillessen should start under the sticks despite Tim Krul’s penalty shootout heroics. The 25 year old Ajax goalkeeper will have a match on his hands thanks to the attacking prowess of the Argentinians. With Gonzalo Higuain back in form and Sergio Aguero fit, Holland will need to be wary of the space left behind by their wingbacks when they dart forward to attack. If however the encounter goes to penalties, expect Krul to shout ‘Vamos’ as takes his place on the field from the sidelines.

Defense:

Van Gaal has displayed enough tactical flexibility in the showpiece event and should again start with a three man defense, thanks to his obsession for the Bielsito model, which believes in the spare man philosophy. Stephan De Vrij, Ron Vlaar and Bruno Martins Indi should be the three centre backs in the heart of the 5-3-2 formation.  Dirk Kuyt, the polyvalent blonde from Feynoord was an absolute delight in the round of 16 encounter against Mexico starting in the left wing back slot, then moving into a striker when the Dutch needed to score and finally finishing off on the right flanks. Daley Blind with his enthusiasm should start in the right wing back role but would know that he has a fight on his hands as he has to cope with Ezequiel Lavezzi on the right.

Midfield:

How much would Van Gaal would miss Nigel De Jong and the man he needed most at this time? Kevin Strootman’s loss remains hugely significant if the Dutch fail to progress but Van Gaal will fall back on Giorginho Wijnaldum and Wesley Snjeider to play through the middle. Arjen Robben remains the trump card for Holland and his mazy runs from out wide is sure to cause havoc against a fragile defense which have been well known to wilt under pressure. Memphis Depay might also start to support Robin Van Persie up front and the super sub who is heralded as the next Cristaino Ronaldo will have to shed the distraction of being linked to Manchester United in the upcoming transfer window.

Strikeforce:

RVP

Van Persie is a major doubt for the semi final clash thanks to a stomach bug but van Gaal has insisted that he will play no matter what. The legendary coach claimed that the Manchester United striker and Netherlands’ joint top scorer with three goals in the tournament, has been training separately from the squad and he will not be able to make a decision on his fitness until the just ahead of the kickoff. In that case Klaas Jan Huntellar might feature at the top of the attack.
