Who Is This Portuguese Star That Tottenham Are Chasing? Everything You Need To Know

A player who was linked with a lot of different clubs at the start of Euro 2016 could be on his way to the Premier League with Tottenham leading the charge. Rafa Silva, part of the Euro 2016 Portuguese side in France, was linked with a move to Liverpool and Manchester United but it could be Mauricio Pochettino’s side that could end up bringing him to the English game.

The 23-year-old hasn’t played a lot of games for the Portuguese national team but he certainly has proved to be a crucial player for Braga in the Portuguese league and even though he has not played for one of the bigger clubs in Portugal, he seems to be destined for greatness.

Who is Rafa Silva?

The Braga star started his career with Atlético Povoense and F.C. Alverca and signed a professional contract when he was 18 with Feirense. He got his big step when Braga signed him in 2013 and it has been an incredible journey for the attacking midfielder.

He has been linked with a move to one of the biggest clubs in the country, SL Benfica but he hasn’t penned a deal yet with the club and this could be time for Tottenham to steal a march on some of the other clubs in the running to sign him up.

The youngster can play all across midfield but playing out on the left wing or as a left midfielder is what he is great at. He is someone who likes to get into the attack and had scored eight goals in the Portuguese league with Braga last season and seems to be getting better with every game he is playing in the side.

This has been a problem with the young midfielder, he needs to be on a regular basis for a top side and unfortunately, that has not happened regularly for the Braga star. Tottenham have needed a lot of cover for the likes of Erik Lamela and Christian Eriksen.

There is one good feature about Silva’s play and that is his running and energy. He might not be great at defending but he does track back most of the time and that does mean he will fit in the style that Mauricio Pochettino has brought into the London side.

Silva still has to work on his inconsistency and the fact that he can play down the middle, right behind the main striker, could also provide some much-needed competition to the likes of Dele Alli as well.

With Victor Janssen coming into the side and Victor Wanyama being the other big signing for the Premier League side, Tottenham seem set for a proper title charge this time around and bringing the 23-year-old Silva could be the final puzzle in the jigsaw.
