Full Time: Leicester City 3-1 Leeds United

Leeds United were dumped out of the Carabao Cup, following their 3-1 defeat at the hands of Premier League side Leicester City, in the Round of 16 stage, at the King Power Stadium, on Tuesday.

It was the Whites who went ahead first, through a beautiful strike from Pablo Hernandez in the 27th minute. However, Leicester were back on level terms only three minutes later, as summer signing Kelechi Iheanacho made the most of an error from goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald to score the equaliser.

In the 71st minute of the game, Islam Slimani put the Foxes ahead, firing home from close range, before substitute Riyad Mahrez made it three with two minutes left on the clock.

Here’s how the Leeds’ players fared in the loss:

Leeds United Player Ratings

Felix Wiedwald – 4/10

At fault for the opening goal, as his weak clearance fell to Iheanacho. Didn’t do his chances of claiming the No.1 spot any good.

Vurnon Anita – 5/10

Started off well, dealing with Demarai Gray fairly easily, but the Foxes’ exploited his side as the game went on, with most of their threat coming down his flank.

Pontus Jansson – 5/10

There were some good moments, but was partly at blame for the equaliser. Still looks a far cry from his dominant self from last season.

Conor Shaughnessy – 5/10

It was always going to be a big test for the youngster, but he started off fairly decently. However, was stretched as the game wore on and couldn’t stop his team from conceding two late goals.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson – 6/10

Put in a decent performance in the first-period, but an injury meant he was subbed off early.

Mateusz Klich – 5/10

The Polish midfielder is yet to find his feet in England. Another performance where he showed some signs of positivity, but couldn’t make it count.

Kalvin Phillips – 6/10

Fared much better than his midfield partner and went toe to toe with the Foxes midfield.

Kemar Roofe – 6/10

A lively presence at the start of the game, Roofe played a part in the opening goal for Leeds, but faded as the game wore on.

Pablo Hernandez – 7/10

Captain on the day, the Spaniard led the team by example. Scored a peach of a goal to put his team ahead in the first period and always tried to drive his team forward.

Pawel Cibicki – 5/10

Another disappointing display from the attacker. Hardly got himself involved in the scheme of things and one can see why his opportunities have been so limited.

Jay-Ray Grot – 5/10

Another player who began brightly, only to tail off after the equaliser. Needs to do much more if he’s to carve out a place for himself.

Substitutes

Luke Ayling – 6/10

On for Borthwick-Jackson in the 46th minute. Did not track Iheanacho’s run leading to the second goal. However, added an attacking threat once he came on.

Hadi Sacko – 5/10

On for Cibicki in the 65th minute, the winger made a couple of bursts forward, but didn’t make much of an impact.

Ronaldo Vieira – 5/10

Replaced Phillips soon after the second goal. Could do little to stem the Foxes.
