Manchester United Player Ratings vs Valencia: Here’s how the Red Devils fared

Jose Mourinho endured another frustrating evening as Manchester United ground out a 0-0 draw against Valencia in the Champions League at Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford was a rare bright spark in the display, causing Valencia problems with his speed and directness. He also hit the bar in the second half, from a free-kick.

Visitors Valencia threatened United with their organised pattern of play and quick counter-attacks but what they sorely lacked was a finishing touch.

David De Gea – 5/10

Was rarely called into action but he was up for it.

Antonio Valencia – 2/10

Valencia had a torrid time against the unpredictability of Guedes. He was left exposed a number of times as the Spanish outfit targeted him and attacked down that flank. Awful night!

Chris Smalling – 5/10

Smalling held his guard and made some crucial interceptions. He had a decent outing.

Eric Bailly – 6/10

Dealt with the strength of Batshuayi very well. He was calm in possession and vigilant throughout the game. His positioning has improved since the early days of this season.

Luke Shaw – 6/10

Shaw always was eager in the attack but was also defensively decent. He showed good energy down the left flank but couldn’t do much on the night.

Marouane Fellaini – 5/10

Sloppy in possession and he failed to impact the game. Valencia midfielders had a free run in the midfield as Fellaini lacked the pace.

Nemanja Matic – 4/10

Looked off the pace from the first blow of the whistle. Improved a bit after the break but he never made any notable contribution on the field.

Paul Pogba – 5/10

Was robbed of possession at times but there were glimpses of world-class distributions of link-up play. Sadly, it was just in patches and Pogba, like his teammates, endured a poor evening.

Marcus Rashford – 6/10

United’s only bright spark of the evening, Rashford stretched the Valencia defenders. He hardly managed to pull off his skills and tricks but the intent was clear.

Alexis Sanchez – 3/10

Another forgettable performance from United’s no.7, who worked his socks but to no avail. Sanchez’s final ball was lacking on multiple occasions and his woeful set-pieces continued.

Romelu Lukaku – 4/10

Lukaku barely got a kick in the first half as he looked completely isolated from his teammates. He looked well off the pace and his touch was worse than usual.

Anthony Martial – 4/10

Replaced Sanchez with 15 minutes left on the watch and showed intent to make things happen. Nearly won a penalty for his side.
