Poor Stephen Ward – The Best And The Worst Rated Burnley Players vs Bournemouth

BUrnley v BournemouthFull Time: Bournemouth 2-1 Burnley

Burnley were handed a 2-1 defeat by former manager Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth side at the Vitality Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday.

It was the Cherries who broke the deadlock in the 25th minute through Junior Stanislas’ brilliant finish. Burnley seemed to have salvaged a point when striker Sam Vokes headed into the back of the net in the 83rd minute. But the parity would last for only a minute as Joshua King restored Bournemouth’s lead with a neat finish, to put the game to bed.

The result means Burnley stay put in their 14th place in the league table, with the hopes of a top half finish fading. Here is how the Burnley players fared on the day:

Burnley Player Ratings

Tom Heaton – 6/10

Had little else to do other than picking the ball out of the net twice. A few routine stops aside, wasn’t tested as much.

Matthew Lowton – 6/10

Did not get forward enough to support his teammates in attack, gave away a lot of fouls in his half – most by any player on the day (5).

Kevin Long – 6.5/10

Defended strongly for large parts of the game and did not allow Lys Mousset a sight at goal. Kept it tight at the back.

James Tarkowski – 6/10

Was troubled by the runs of Josh King on occasions but managed to repel the danger. Was beaten by the Norwegian in the lead up to the goal.

Stephen Ward – 5/10

Let Stanislas free to run into the box to open the scoring. Looked susceptible when the Cherries looked to play the ball in behind him.

Scott Arfield – 6/10

Had a few half-decent chances to score, but failed to work Artur Boruc. Always willing to help his team out defensively.

Ashley Westwood – 5/10

Was outdone by his counterpart Lewis Cook. Struggled to get going throughout the game.

Jeff Hendrick – 5.5/10

Looked to get his team forward each time he got on the ball, but could not really impact the game in the middle of the park.

George Boyd – 6/10

Hit just wide of the post in the second minute. Posed a few problems with his runs behind the defence, but lacked the cutting edge.

Ashley Barnes – 6/10

Tried to link up with Vokes and Arfield, but could not threaten much. Withdrawn at the half-time for Gray.

Sam Vokes – 7/10

Won everything in the air and was always a threat in the box. However, his shooting was off the mark until he managed to score the equalizer with a neat header.

Substitutions

Andre Gray – 6/10

Replaced Barnes at half-time. Added pace but could not have the desired effect.

Robbie Brady – 5/10

Came on for Boyd in the 55th time. One good cross aside, did nothing to impact. Booked for simulation.

Johann Berg-Gudmundsson – 6/10

Replaced Arfield with fifteen minutes left to play. Sent in a powerful cross for the leveler.
