Manchester United were completely outnumbered by their opponents, Chelsea, last night as the hosts finished the game with a thumping scoreline of 4 goals to nil. Chelsea shocked the Stamford Bridge spectators withing the opening 30 seconds of the game as the former Barcelona man, Pedro, opened the scoring for the Blues after a confusing mix-up with between United’s defence and since then, the home side controlled the reigns throughout.

Goals followed by Cahill, Hazard and Kante sealed the deal for the Blues and that highlighted the backdrop Mourinho’s men possessed. The Devils may have won the statistical battle as they had more possession and more shots on target, but goals change games, not possession. With that being said, here are the player ratings for the Devils:

MANCHESTER UNITED (4-2-3-1)

David De Gea– 5

Was terrible for the first goal as a moment of confusion with Smalling led to Pedro’s goal. Was helpless as Chelsea scored 3 more past him.

Antonio Valencia- 6

More effective going forward. Looked to be a threat but faded out as United threw in the towel.

Chris Smalling– 4

Appalling defending on his part led to the opener as he misjudged Blind’s pace and lost Pedro in the process. Looked shaky throughout the game. The skipper had a game to forget.

Eric Bailly– 5.5 (Marcus Rojo 52, 5)

Looked more composed than Smalling and made a few vital interceptions to begin the game. Went off 6 minutes into the second half with an injury.

Daley Blind– 5

A bad mix up with Smalling and De Gea lead to Chelsea’s opening goal. Failed to deal with Chelsea’s attackers. Was moved into central defence after Bailly went off. Didn’t do any better there.

It was a day to forget for Manchester United at Stamford Bridge

Marouane Fellaini– 4.5 (Juan Mata 45,6)

Threw himself around the pitch in the opening exchanges but was soon outpaced by Chelsea’s diminutive midfielders. Was on the receiving end of a bad tackle from David Luiz. Was taken off at half-time to introduce Mata.

Ander Herrera– 6

Sprayed passes around and did his usual thing. But nowhere as effective as he was in the Liverpool game.

Marcus Rashford– 5.5

A quiet game for the young striker. He struggled to get a foothold on the game and didn’t do much in an attacking sense. Was stifled superbly by Chelsea’s defenders.

Paul Pogba– 4.5

Was wasteful all afternoon as the world’s most expensive player looked nothing like what his price tag and CV portrays. Chelsea fans even sang ‘What a waste of money!”,which puts his night into perspective.

Jesse Lingard– 5 (Martial 65, 5)

Was energetic going forward but had more tracking back to do. Had a few efforts on goal, one notably in the second half which Courtois did well to save.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic- 5

Might’ve scored early on when he out-jumped Azpilicueta but put his header over. Had many other such chances throughout the game but like United; was wasteful. It’s now his worst barren run in over 10 years of league football which is a really tell-tale sign. His place in the side could be under scrutiny soon.
