Everton played out a thrilling 2-2 draw against Watford at Goodison Park as Marco Silva failed to pick up a win against his former side. The Toffees took the lead early on through Richarlison, who smashed home Andre Gomes’ cross which came after Theo Walcott seemed to have touched the ball in an offside position.
The Merseyside club were definitely fortunate to get the goal but soon started to lose their momentum as the Hornets started to ask questions. It almost seemed as though Watford needed to concede a goal to step up their levels.
Javi Gracia’s side piled the pressure on Everton as Bernard and Theo Walcott caused all sorts of problems down the flank. The Toffees eventually conceded an unfortunate own goal which saw Roberto Pereyra’s shot come off the bar and ricochet back into the goal after coming off right-back Seamus Coleman.
Watford then immediately scored their second on the night after Pereyra was once again involved in the action, playing in a superb cross for Abdoulaye Doucoure to smash home the header. It took just two minutes for Javi Gracia’s side to score their second.
Everton were then controversially awarded a penalty after Christian Kabasele brought down defender Yerry Mina inside the box. Gylfi Sigurdsson stepped up to take the spot-kick only to see his tame shot brilliantly saved by Ben Foster. The Iceland international has now missed two of his three penalties taken this season.
Marco Silva then sent on the cavalry in the form of Ademola Lookman, Cenk Tosun and Dominic Calvert-Lewin as the manager went for the point. But it was left-back Lucas Digne who ultimately saved the day for the Toffees after scoring a superb free-kick in stoppage-time. Kabasele was once again at fault after handling the ball just outside the box, which the Frenchman was on hand to convert.
