Poor Messi – The Best And The Worst Rated Barcelona Players vs Juventus

Lionel Messi Failed To Shine For Barcelona
Lionel Messi Failed To Shine For Barcelona Against Juventus

Full Time: Barcelona 0-0 Juventus

Barcelona could not conjure up another miraculous comeback in the UEFA Champions League, as Juventus held on to a 0-0 draw at the Camp Nou to go through to the semi-finals of the competition on aggregate (3-0).

Lionel Messi missed gilt-edged chances on two occasions, either side of half-time to bring his side back into the team, but in the end the Catalans left themselves too much to do with as Juventus stayed resolute and saw the tie through without much of a danger.

Here is how the Barcelona players fared on the night

Barcelona Player Ratings

Marc-Andre ter Stegen – 6/10

Had very little to deal with through the course of the game, except for a couple of routine stops from Gonzalo Higuain and Juan Cuadrado.

Sergi Roberto – 6/10

Full of energy down the right-side, as he attacked with intent but the quality of the end product wasn’t always up to the mark.

Gerard Pique – 6/10

Made a crucial block in the opening stages of the game to stop Cuadrado. Spent most of the latter parts at the other end, but couldn’t make a telling contribution.

Samuel Umtiti – 7/10

Stayed composed and did his job admirably at the back. Stopped a series of counters from Juve, with all his defensive partners going upfield.

Jordi Alba – 5/10

Failed to connect with a beautiful lobbed pass from Messi to score in the first-half. Cuadrado had his number throughout the game.

Sergio Busquets – 6/10

Barcelona look much more composed with him in the side. Kept it simple in the middle of the park, but couldn’t produce anything that would open up the Juve defence.

Ivan Rakitic – 5/10

His passing was off, once again. Another disappointing performance devoid of quality and creativity when his team needed it the most. He is going through a poor run of form.

Andres Iniesta – 6/10

Was probably the better of the Barcelona midfield trio but that’s not saying much. A few silky touches here and there, but he too couldn’t unlock the Juve backline.

Lionel Messi – 5/10

Should’ve put Barca ahead in the 20th minute, but fired wide from within the box. Missed another great chance in the second period. There were a few neat touches, some beautiful link-up play, especially his pass to Alba that the full-back failed to score from, but it was a wasteful and ineffective display.

Luis Suarez – 5/10

Quiet and extremely ineffective, as Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci had hardly giving him any breathing space.

Neymar – 7.5/10

Barcelona’s best performer on the night and by some distance. The Brazilian terrorized the left-flank with his mazy runs and trickery on the ball and gave compatriot and former Barcelona teammate Dani Alves a torrid time. But let his frustration get the better of him on occasions.

Substitutes

Paco Alcacer – 4/10

Came on for Rakitic on the hour mark. Invisible for most of his time on the field. Failed to add anything to the team.

Javier Mascherano – NA

Replaced Roberto with just over ten minutes left to play.
