Chelsea fell short of setting a new record on Wednesday night, as a 2-0 loss to Tottenham at the White Hart Lane put an end to their 13-match Premier League winning streak.
The Blues couldn’t contain the Spurs’ high-pressing game, and were clearly the 2nd best all night, as they failed to create any meaningful chance up front while they got exposed at the back.
With few seconds to the end of the 1st half, Tottenham put themselves in front after Eriksen’s cross located Alli, who wasted no time putting a fine header beyond Courtois’ reach.
The 2nd half resumed with the 2 forwards replicating the damage again barely 10 minutes after the restart. The Dane played in a cross to the England international, and he met it with a header than beat the onrushing Belgian goalie.
Try as they might, Chelsea couldn’t make anything worthwhile happen at the other end, failing to the score for the 1st time ever in 14 games. Their lead on top of the table has been reduced to 5 as a result of the defeat, and here is a look at how the Blues do:
Courtois
Got beaten by the only shots on target from the hosts but could have done better to come off the line for the 2nd goal.
Rating: 6/10
Azpilicueta
Watched helplessly on as both goals went in despite trying his best to outjump Alli.
Limited the threat of the England midfielder on ground, though.
Rating: 6/10
Luiz
Wasted some passes in both halves but did well to keep Kane in check all through the game.
Sadly, it wasn’t enough as other men did the damage.
Rating: 6/10
Cahill
Both Eriksen’s inviting crosses came from the left side of the defence, with Cahill unable to stop the Dane from playing them.
Rating: 6/10
Moses
Hardly put in any cross into Tottenham’s box and did find Rose a very tricky customer all-game.
Could have done more to close down Alli for both goals.
Rating: 6/10
Matic
Ran the show for Chelsea in midfield anytime he had the ball, but it wasn’t enough to prevent a heavy loss.
Rating: 6/10
Kante
Definitely his worst game in a Chelsea shirt as the strengths of Dembele and Wanyama proved too much for him to handle.
Misplaced a couple of passes and was sacrificed for Fabregas in the closing minutes of the game.
Rating: 4/10
Alonso
Whipped in some fine crosses into the box in the second period after a very quiet first half as Walker’s pace and strength had proved too much for him to handle.
Rating: 6/10
Pedro
His pace yielded absolutely nothing this time around, and he didn’t do much to create any chances whatsoever.
Rating: 5/10
Hazard
Spurned a fine chance at the very beginning of the game and couldn’t run the show as expected of him, with Alderweireld negating the effectiveness of his fellow Belgian.
Rating: 5/10
Costa
His only chance was Chelsea’s best of the game, and he always tried to use his body well and feed his attacking mates, but that wasn’t enough on such a night.
Rating: 7/10
SUBSTITUTES
Willian
Did nothing to inspire Chelsea’s attack after replacing Alonso.
Rating: 5/10
Fabregas
Came on late but couldn’t carve out the chances as expected.
Rating: 5/10
Batshuayi
Barely touched the ball after coming on some 5 minutes to go.
