Poor Armstrong – The Best And The Worst Rated Celtic Players From The Game Against Paris Saint-Germain

Full Time: Celtic 0-5 Paris Saint-Germain

Celtic were brought crashing down by Paris Saint-Germain, in their first group game of the UEFA Champions League, as they were handed a 5-0 drubbing at the Celtic Park, on Tuesday.

The goal was very much coming for the visitors and after they had a strike from Edinson Cavani ruled out for offside, Neymar opened the scoring after getting on the end of an Adrien Rabiot pass in the 19th minute. And Kylian Mbappe doubled PSG’s lead from close range in the 36th minute, before Cavani made it three, four minutes later from the penalty spot, after being felled by Jozo Simunovic.

Defender Mikael Lustig inadvertently turned the ball into his own net from Julian Draxler’s cross late in the game to make it 4-0 for PSG, before Cavani added a fifth goal with a diving header.

Here’s how the Celtic players fared on the night:

Celtic Player Ratings

Craig Gordon – 5/10

Pulled off a smart save to deny Edinson Cavani. But it was one-way traffic from thereon. Not a lot he could do.

Anthony Ralston – 4.5/10

Beaten by Neymar in the lead up to the goal. Booked in the second half. Showed bite, but it was always going to be a losing battle against Neymar.

Mikael Lustig – 5/10

Important tackle on Neymar early in the game and stuck to his task amidst a barrage of attacks. Unlucky to have scored the own goal late on.

Jozo Simunovic – 4/10

Silly foul on Cavani in the box to give away a penalty. Booked. Poor display from the defender.

Kieran Tierney – 5.5/10

Arguably, the best of the Celtic backline, which wasn’t saying much. Tried to keep up with Mbappe, but was beaten by the teenage sensation. Did send in a couple of teasing crosses into the box.

Scott Brown – 5/10

Never really came to terms with the dynamic PSG midfield trio. Caught chasing shadows more often than not.

Olivier Ntcham – 5/10

Fired wide early on. Couldn’t cope with the visitors’ midfield and the game passed by him.

Stuart Armstrong – 3.5/10

Another player who was very much a passenger in the midfield. Taken off at half-time after a highly subdued first period.

Patrick Roberts – 5.5/10

Posed a threat going forward on occasions, cutting in on to his left foot from the right side. But he lacked the end product. Grew tired as the game progressed.

Leigh Griffiths – 5/10

Had a brilliant free-kick saved by Alphonse Areola at 1-0. Was frustrated though, with the lack of opportunities created by his team.

Scott Sinclair – 5.5/10

Forced a save from the keeper on either side of half-time but was guilty of allowing Dani Alves to get forward from right-back with ease.

Tom Rogic – 5/10

Replaced Armstrong at half-time. Did very little of note to impact the game.

Odsonne Edouard – N/A

Replaced Griffiths for the last 20 minutes.

James Forrest – N/A

On for Roberts in the 78th minute.
