Pochettino would pull off a masterstroke by bringing in this £50m-rated Ligue 1 ace to boost Tottenham’s attacking depth

Tottenham Hotspur should definitely make the move for Ismaila Sarr

Tottenham Hotspur were humbled by the hands of Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium last weekend as Unai Emery got the better of Mauricio Pochettino in his first North London Derby. Spurs looked superb in their dominant showing against Chelsea two weeks ago but failed to maintain any of that momentum against the Gunners.

There’s no question as to whether Pochettino should dive into the transfer market in January and bolster the squad. The manager didn’t do so in the summer and cannot afford to let another chance slip by. Spurs have endured a number of injury problems this season and have occasionally struggled to score goals as well.

Pochettino should take a look at Rennes attacker Ismaila Sarr. The Senegal international turned heads last season with his superb display for both club and country at the FIFA World Cup in Russia. He has started this season in impressive form for the Ligue 1 side as well, scoring 5 goals in league appearances. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)

Ismaila Sarr

According to the Sun, Arsenal were interested in swooping for the youngster in the summer transfer window but a move failed to materialize. The report suggests that the Senegal international is rated at £50million by the club and that the asking price needs to be met to begin any sort of negotiations.

Sarr made headlines this weekend when the 20-year-old curled in a sublime effort against FC Strasbourg in the league. But his goal was in vain as Rennes went on to lose the game 4-1 on the night.

He would be a great addition to this young Tottenham Hotspur side. Sarr will bring an added sense of pace and energy to the Spurs frontline along with supreme finishing ability as well. Tottenham Hotspur brought Lucas Moura from Paris Saint-Germain last season and though his ability on the ball is good, his finishing has been mediocre.

That is where Sarr will thrive. He can play on either flank and is also comfortable slotting into a lone forward role as he has done for the club this season. The 20-year-old may still be a raw player but he possesses so much potential to go on and become one of the best.

Sarr is a superb link-up player as well. His ability to stretch defences will provide the likes of Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son to find space and make their runs. The Senegal international is not the crispest passers of a ball but he can certainly release one of his teammates.

Tottenham Hotspur should definitely make the move for Ismaila Sarr in January. Failing to have depth and cover in the squad will eventually come back to haunt Mauricio Pochettino and could possibly derail Spurs’ season.
