Tottenham opinion: Pochettino wants Sean Longstaff – a good choice?

The Chronicle Live has reported that Tottenham are interested in making a move for Newcastle United starlet Sean Longstaff. The young midfielder has been a revelation this season for the Magpies despite only making his debut in December.

Longstaff is only 21 years old and yet, has never let that stop him from performing against the likes of Manchester City and Tottenham among others. Rafael Benitez had no choice but to call up the youngster after a slew of injuries hit his team.

However, despite the fact that both Mohamed Diame and Jonjo Shelvey were back from injuries, Benitez never looked back. That’s how much impact the young Longstaff made both on the Premier League and the Magpies boss.

In fact, if it wasn’t for his season-ending knee injury, Sean Longstaff would have continued in style. Young and fearless, the 21-year-old is a box-to-box midfielder at his best, flourishing with the ball at his feet.

He oozes confidence and isn’t the most creative player around, opting for the simple and straightforward passes instead. It’s that ability that Tottenham need at the moment, someone who is cool, calm and composed on the ball.

That personifies Sean Longstaff, and unlike either Moussa Sissoko or Harry Winks, the 21-year-old has never once panicked with the ball is at his feet.

Always aware of where his teammates are on the field, he has it in his locker to spray a 40-yard pass out to the flanks if needed. However, the youngster is a perfect player.

Sean Longstaff has his fair share of weakness and his stamina has been questioned at times this season. And he isn’t the most aggressive player on the field, but he makes up for it in other areas, which is why Rafael Benitez consistently used him over the last few months.

It’s also why Mauricio Pochettino should really consider a move for the young midfielder.

Conclusion

The North London side are looking to fill their trophy cabinet in the near future. Though Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks can help them do that, someone like Sean Longstaff can make it easier for Spurs.

Over the last three odd months, the youngster shown more composure and talent than Moussa Sissoko in the last three odd years.
