Player Ratings: How Arsenal Players Fared At Ethihad

Arsenal fought back well to gain a point away from Ethihad against Manchester city. Now lets analyze how gunners performed yesterday ( with player ratings.)

Arsenal

Vito Mannone – 5.5

First real mistake he made this season resulted in City’s opening goal. He showed good shot stopping skills but needs to improve his judgement on dealing with high balls.

Carl Jenkinson – 7.5

Probably the most improved player from last season in premier league. His devastating pace and runs troubled the defending champions. He was solid in defense too. Watch out Sagna!

Laurent Koscielny – 7.5

Man of the moment! Equalized for Arsenal with a stunning rocket shot from a short range. First time in many years Arsenal have three good Center backs at the same time.

Per Mertesacker – 8 (Man of the Match)

The tall German was impenetrable yesterday. Many Pundits believed he lacked pace to play in England. But he balanced his lack of pace with his timely interceptions. Read the game well and definitely Man Of The Match.

Kieran Gibbs – 6.5

A decent game for the left back. He was forced to limit his trademark overlapping runs by Zabaleta.

Abou Diaby (70′ off) – 5

Diaby showed mixed performance. He showed some good touches but gave away the ball many times which led to City counter attacks. Subbed in second half.

Mikel Arteta – 7.5

Top game from the Spaniard. He completed more than 90 passes in the midfield with the pass accuracy of 94%. He played his role of a deep playmaker with perfection. May be Song’s departure is after all a blessing in disguise for the gunners.

Santi Cazorla – 7

He is already touted as the best buy of the season. Another good game for him. His passing and vision threatened city throughout the game. It was his powerful shot (saved by Hart) that led to the corner from which Arsenal’s no 6 scored.

Aaron Ramsey – 7.5

With Ramsey getting into some kind of form and with Wilshere coming back, this could be the best midfield in premier league. Ramsey played his part well yesterday. His pin point pass early in the first half almost led to the opening goal.

Gervinho (90′ off) – 3.5 (Flop of the game)

He was the worst player on the pitch in red and white jersey. Struggled to execute his dribbles against a good city defense. He was suppose to be a winger but I never saw any crosses from him. Missed two great chances with his poor finishing abilities.

Lukas Podolski (70′ off) – 6

An average game by his standards and was replaced in second half.

Substitutions

Olivier Giroud (70′ on) – 6.5

Showed great physical strength and linked well with midfield in the 20 mins he spent in the pitch.

Theo Walcott (70′ on) – 5.5

Made one or two good runs but had very less time to make an impact.

Coqeulin (90′ on) – N/A
