Nacho Monreal

The Arsenal left back scored his first goal for his country with a classy volley as Spain cruised to a comfortable 4-0 victory over Macedonia in Granada. It was the 30-year old’s first goal for Spain in 18 appearances and he certainly was content capturing and posting the moment on Instagram.

The hosts were leading 2-0 till the 83rd minute in their World Cup Qualifiers match and with six minutes left, the full-back connected sweetly from a cross by fellow full-back Dani Carvajal.

Spain went ahead through an own-goal when defender Darko Velkovski back-headed a Carvajal cross in the first half. Sevilla winger Vitolo added a second and after Monreal struck the third, Aduriz completed the rout in an easy win for the La Roja’s.

Spain make the trip to Wembley as they take on Gareth Southgate’s England side on Tuesday night in a friendly. Arsene Wenger would love to see Monreal score another goal for his country before returning to club duty as his side makes another long trip to Old Trafford over the weekend.

Wenger’s Arsenal side are currently fourth in the league, two points behind Liverpool, one behind Chelsea and level with Manchester City after eleven top-flight matches. But a good performance by his international players will only boost their confidence.

The Gunner’s will be looking to come away with all three points and contend for the title as they visit Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United who sit six points behind Arsenal in sixth.

However, Monreal is too busy marveling his first goal to think about the upcoming matches. “Happy to have scored my first goal with the national team” he captions on his Instagram profile.
