The stalemate at Anfield did not have the kind of an effect at the top of the table as Antonio Conte’s Chelsea managed to increase the gap to 9 points off Tottenham Hotspur in the second place. However, they face yet another test, just days after the draining game at Anfield as they welcome Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal to the Stamford Bridge in a London derby of sorts.
The Gunners are fresh from a loss to Watford and will have to be at their best to get anything from this game and if Conte’s side manages to steal a victory, they will surely take a leap closer to the Premier League title. With such an option on his hand, Conte is expected to go for the kill and should play his strongest side. Here is the predicted lineup he might field for this game:
Here is the predicted lineup he might field for this game:
Team News:
Brazilian duo Willian and David Luiz picked up small knocks in the game at Anfield but neither player is expected to miss the clash at the weekend. They remain the only concerns for Conte ahead of this tie.
Expected lineup (3-4-3):
Thibaut Courtois:
The Belgian was not overly tested at the Merseyside not long ago and he will hope to have a similar game at the weekend.
Cesar Azpilicueta:
One of the most consistent defenders in the league, Azpilicueta will be up against a dangerous Alexis Sanchez on the flank in this game.
David Luiz:
The man of the match in the previous game, Luiz will be high on confidence and though he picked up a knock in that game, h eshould be back in action for this tie.
Gary Cahill:
The experienced international had a solid game at Anfield and Conte will hope that he can put in a similar performance against the Gunners this week.
Victor Moses:
Completely ineffective at Anfield, Moses will be happy in coming back to the Bridge and will hope to make a positive impact against the likes of Monreal on the wing.
N Golo Kante:
Having broken a record in the game at Anfield, Kante is only getting better by the game and is a regular starter for Chelsea this season.
Nemanja Matic:
Was replaced by Fabregas in the previous game at the hour mark and should be fresh and ready to take on the Gunners this weekend.
Marcos Alonso:
The Italian full-back also had no joy at Anfield and Chelsea will have to get him and Moses more into the game to have a shot at all three points.
Pedro:
With Willian picking up a knock at Anfield, Pedro should deputize in his place, allowing the Brazilian some much-needed rest.
Eden Hazard:
Arguably the most ineffective Chelsea player at Anfield, Hazard will hope to make amends by putting in a match winning performance against the Gunners.
Diego Costa:
The Spaniard will not be happy with his contributions to the team in the previous game and will hope to make an impact on the night at the Bridge.
