Paris Calling Jose: Why Would It Be Too Early For The Man United Boss To Accept Paris Saint-Germain’s Offer

When Jose Mourinho was appointed as the new Manchester United manager, it was an unforgettable announcement since it linked one of Europe’s biggest clubs with a modern-day managerial icon. Irrespective of whether one likes or hates the charismatic Portuguese, he is truly iconic. Be it his witty one-liners during press conferences or his controversial decisions, Mourinho is a figure either loved or hated by many.

With respect to recent speculation, reports suggest that the manager could quit Manchester United at the end of the season to join Paris Saint-Germain as the head coach.

Unai Emery is PSG’s current manager and the French giants are sitting atop the Ligue 1 table, and have secured a place in the Champions League knockout stages. While this shows the kind of influence the Spaniard has had at the club, the former Sevilla coach is seemingly unable to deal with big egos – and PSG are filled with superstars at the moment.

Considering Emery failed to win the title last season, the club’s owners could sack him if he does not win silverware by the end of this term. Their sight will particularly be on the Champions League title, and if PSG do not win even after spending so much money, it is very likely that Emery could be on his way out of the club.

Mourinho, in contrast, has two Champions League titles under his belt. Also, the manager could be tempted to prove his quality in France, especially with interest coming up from a cash-rich and a high-flying club like PSG. When it comes to the Premier League, Pep Guardiola is getting closer to winning the title as the days go by.

Although the Manchester City manager is receiving praise for his team’s performances, many think that he has achieved all this only because of the money he spent. If Mourinho moved to PSG, the manager would receive similar liberties when it comes to money, which will truly enable him to compete with his arch-rival, on the Champions League stage.

To be fair, Mourinho has no reason to complain about funds since he did spend quite extravagantly at United. However, their failure to sign Ivan Perisic is likely to have irked the manager. The Red Devils could have been a lot stronger with a player like Perisic in their ranks. To add salt to injury, Mourinho received this setback at a time when City splashed out exorbitant amounts on defenders Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy.

Mourinho wanted Perisic to be a part of the squad and he will be intent on making a January move. However, if the United owners place a restriction upon spending, that could prompt Mourinho to depart from Old Trafford. Without a player like Perisic, United have lacked variety in games against stronger opponents and the recent decline in goals has painted a gloomy picture for Mourinho – who is otherwise known for his swashbuckling style.

Hence, after acquiring Neymar and Mbappe, PSG will be aware that signing Mourinho would be another major statement of their intent.

However, it might be too soon to make a call. Jose Mourinho and Manchester United seem like a perfect fit on paper and the season does have a long way to go. Meanwhile, PSG have a lot to offer but it remains to be seen whether Mourinho stays back to fight and take United to greater heights or if he chooses to take the easy route of joining PSG.
