‘The Ox’ Is Forcing Liverpool To Consider Signing Him In The Summer

Reports from The Telegraph last month claimed that Liverpool were planning a raid on Arsenal for the signature of versatile attacker Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the upcoming transfer window. The report also said that the Englishman was valued in the range of £35million by the North London outfit.

Reds’ manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly a huge admirer of the 23-year old and was interested in making a move for him in the January window as well, as per The Telegraph. With him entering the final 12 months of his contract at the end of the season, Liverpool have increased their efforts in their pursuit of Oxlade-Chamberlain.

“The Ox has had by far one of his most productive seasons for the Gunners this year, ever since he broke into the first team. The 23-year old has featured 43 times for the Gunners this season across all competitions and has decent returns of 6 goals and 11 assists so far. 7 of those assists have come in the Premier League, which is more than his tally for the last 5 years combined.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has featured in various positions for Arsenal this season and has proved his versatility by performing well in all the roles that he has been asked to. The England international has done well on the flanks, impressed everyone with his displays in a central midfield role as well. And more recently, he has excelled brilliantly in a right wing-back role after Arsene Wenger switched to a 3-4-3 setup.

Arsenal have notched up 4 wins in their last 5 games across all competitions with the only loss coming against North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Oxlade-Chamberlain has featured in 4 of these games, all as a wing-back, and has played a crucial role in each of the wins. The former Southampton man put in a starring display in Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals last month at the Wembley.

His performance against Manchester United this past Sunday at the Emirates Stadium, where the Gunners won 2-0, exemplified the innate talent that he possesses. Oxlade-Chamberlain grabbed the assists for both the goals for Arsenal and was always a threat on the flanks with his surging runs.

His strong displays in recent weeks will not have gone unnoticed at Liverpool and if anything, it should have strengthened their resolve to bring him to the Merseyside for the upcoming season. The options that he will bring to the squad with his seamless transition into multiple positions will be a huge asset and is something that would be of huge appeal to Klopp. The £35million valuation might seem a little steep, but with his contract set to expire in a year, Liverpool are in a position to drive the price down.

Jurgen Klopp has a strong nucleus of talented English players with the likes of Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, and Daniel Sturridge at his disposal at Anfield. Having been marred by inconsistency over the past few years, Oxlade-Chamberlain has really stepped it up this term. And judging by his performances this season, especially in the past few weeks, it isn’t hard to guess why Klopp wants to add him to his English contingent at Liverpool.
