Antonio Conte has not had the best starts to his debut in the Premier League season as back to back losses against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal showed that the manager still has to do a lot of work on his squad this season. The two deadline day signings in David Luiz and Marcos Alonso were supposed to solve the defensive problems for the Blues but neither has been able to command a place in the side and have left the boss with some searching to do for the next transfer window. One player who is now linked with a move to the Stamford Bridge is the Italian international Mattia de Sciglio. Reports reveal that Conte is ready to offer Cesc Fabregas as a part of the deal for the 23-year old after missing out on him in the summer and here is why he might be the man to solve most problems at the club:

With more than 100 appearances for the Italian outfit AC Milan, De Sciglio was one of the most exciting youngsters in Italy when he joined the Italian giants at the age of 10. He has grown through the ranks at the club and also got himself into the national team under Antonio Conte. A left-back by trait, De Sciglio is a versatile player who can play in a 3-5-2 role as a wing back and is adept at either flank. He is a strong, energetic defender who keeps it simple and provides stability to the back line for any team he plays. Though his career has been marred by injuries at crucial times, his potential has seen the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus scout for him but a move to Chelsea might benefit both parties.

The 23-year old has already played under Conte in the national side and will know the ins and outs of the Italian’s game. He will settle into the side with relative ease and will snatch the left-back position constantly. At his age, he is still learning the trade but the experience he has gathered at his time in Milan and with Italy will provide Chelsea with an extra mettle at the back.

The Blues have been disastrous at times this season with the center back partnership of Gary Cahill and David Luiz doing no favors whatsoever. And the full-backs in Marcos Alonso, Cesar Azpilicueta and Branislav Ivanovic have not been able to provide the necessary cover for the goal and have been a weak link on the side as well. Conte might decide to play a 3-man defense like he did in the second half at the Emirates recently and De Sciglio will be the only player who is already accustomed to it in the team (along with Marcos Alonso). The 23-year old is potentially one of the greatest talents in the world and though he has not received the kind of attention a player of his potential usually does, a move to Stamford Bridge might allow him to take the next step.

Do you think De Sciglio will solve Chelsea’s problems at the back?
