Why Cengiz Under would be a brilliant addition to Manchester United
According to a report from Football Italia, Manchester United are one of the elite European clubs interested in the services of AS Roma winger Cengiz Under.
Cengiz Under joined AS Roma last summer and contributed eight goals and two assists from the right wing in his first season in Italy. An impressive start to this campaign has seen the young Turkish star notch three goals and four assists in 11 appearances across all competitions
The 21-year-old’s eye-catching displays this term have seen him garner a lot of attraction and Roma might be willing to part with him in January, provided their valuation of €50m is met, adds the report.
With that said, should Manchester United splash so much cash to sign Under in January?
Manchester United have endured a tough time in the Premier League this season, as Jose Mourinho managed to add just three players in summer. The three players—Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant—have failed to contribute anything substantial to the team so far.
The Red Devils have been defensively all over the place, while the attack has floundered like anything. Romelu Lukaku—the club’s main striker—has hit a rough patch and is nine games without a goal at the moment. The likes of Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata have been in and out of the team this season, while Alexis Sanchez has been a shadow of his former self.
Mourinho brought Sanchez from Arsenal in January to bolster his attacking ranks, but the Chilean has just not fitted to the Portuguese’ system at the club. The 29-year-old has been in and out of the team and has struggled with injuries so far this term.
Sanchez’s poor run of form has seen Anthony Martial take utmost advantage lately, with the Frenchman banging four goals in last three Premier League games. But Mourinho’s side still lack a proper right winger and that’s when signing Under would make sense.
Under is predominantly a right winger but he is effective on the left and can play through the middle as well. He is speedy and is also a top dribbler with the ball as he has a knack of finding space out of tight areas. The 21-year-old is a wonderful athlete and uses his pace to chase down long balls played from the midfield.
The Turkey international is great at dribbling past defenders, threading through balls and supplying devilish crosses into the box. But more importantly, Under can put a shift off the ball when required. A lively presence in the final third, the young gun possesses a fantastic engine and uses his high energy levels to press the opposition’s backline.

Hence, Cengiz Under is a forward with immense potential and Manchester United should not hesitate to splash a huge sum in January to lure him away from AS Roma.
