Opinion: Chelsea Should Look No Further Than Few Miles For This Drogba Replacement

The fairy tale at Chelsea of Didier Drogba could come to an end this season as his contract ends with the club, Drogba, who is 37 was brought in to do a certain job and provide some help off the bench in case there was a requirement and in part has done what he needed to do. However, Chelsea will need to replace the Ivorian next season with someone who knows that they will not play every minute of the season but play only a part of the game in most cases and not be unhappy sitting on the bench playing second fiddle.

Chelsea would also need someone who has Premier League experience and is strong in the air and can bring in a physical aspect to their game. There might not be too many players fitting the bill, but there is one who is a London resident, for now and could be up Chelsea’s alley if they risk it.

Arsenal, Tottenham & Chelsea?

If the above clue is not enough to let you know just which player we are talking about, include Manchester City in the mix and you would have the answer. Emmanuel Adebayor might not be everyone’s favourite player in the world, but he can do a job when needed and could be the solution to Chelsea’ problems of needing a big striker.

The Togo international might be a handful for most managers but if there is someone who can keep him straight it has to be Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese is a no-nonsense manager and most players do want to give their best for him. Adebayor needs some guidance and everyone knows that when Adebayor was playing at his best, there really was no better physical striker than the Togo international.

His time at Tottenham started really well but with new managers coming in, his playing time and style has somewhat been curtailed, He has only featured in 10 matches this season and scored only twice which is pretty poor but coming off the bench he could certainly cause a few problems to defences with his running and strength, plus he is not the worst striker of the ball and is a decent header as well.

Didier Drogba hasn’t fared any better this season having scored 6 times in 27 games, the goal scoring ratios are almost the same for the pair. While Drogba is 37, Adebayor is only 31 years old and still has a couple of good years left in him, it might be a bitter pill to swallow for Chelsea fans seeing an ex-Spur and Arsenal player but he could be a brilliant signing if they get it done.
