Opinion: Can Benzema Fire Arsenal To Premier League Glory?

Twitter exploded and so did almost every other social media site with a picture of Karim Benzema in a plane. Rumours continue to circulate about Arsenal launching a bid to sign the 27-year-old French striker from Real Madrid. The striker has a great scoring record for both Lyon and Real Madrid and averaged almost a goal every other game.

Arsenal haven’t done a lot of deals this season, barring the capture of Petr Cech, Arsene has been quiet on his transfer business, but that could change if they have the opportunity to sign the Frenchman. Real Madrid have a new manager and it could be the highway for many players, especially those who do not toe the line with Rafa Benitez.

Arsenal would be looking to make a marquee signing, especially since they are now looking to win the Premier League. They need to bring in another big name but is Karim Benzema the right option?

A French league win

First things first, Arsenal have a decent striker in Olivier Giroud but that is the major problem, he is a decent striker and is not ‘world-class’. Giroud does have great spells when he seems to score on a regular basis but doesn’t seem to work hard enough and often has spurts where he just is plain awful.

Benzema has always been one of the most hardworking players in his team, even at Real Madrid; he was one of the players who did defend from the top. Another great aspect of his game is that he scores goals and he scores them regularly. He has 133 goals in 281 games for Real Madrid, but this is with Ronaldo in his team. He can lead the team, but he can play in his teammates as well.

The Frenchman from Madrid might not want to move away from the club, but his signing could signal great things for Arsenal. They have been searching for a top striker and the players at the club do not provide a lot of confidence when it comes to goal scoring. Danny Welbeck isn’t a regular goal scorer and the other youngsters need a lot of game time to become better.

Arsenal have the money to spend on a big player, the professor of economics seems to have worked well within his budget over the years but now with the new stadium paid off, his transfer kitty has increased. Karim Benzema would be an amazing signing for any team and having the likes of Ozil, Sanchez, Cazorla and Wilshere playing him in, his goal scoring record could only get better if he does sign for the Gunners. He could fire them to more than just the league win, maybe even European glory?
