Opinion: 3 Top-class successors for Suarez who Barcelona can target including 52-goal Ajax star

Barcelona opinion: Three successors for Luis Suarez

Barcelona are currently in the transfer market for prolific strikers as their primary choice striker Luis Suarez has already entered his 30s and was at low ebb in the recently concluded season.

To be precise, the Uruguayan international bagged only a goal in 10 Champions League outings, an awkward start for a player for his quality.

While the former Liverpool man seems to have returned to his best with some good performances in Copa America, finding his long-time successor is also very important for the Catalans.

Here are three players who can serve as a long-term replacement for Luiz Suarez at Barcelona:

Kasper Dolberg

The Danish sensation has been on the radar of the Blaugrana for a while before they opted to halt their interest. One of the finest young talents that Ajax have produced in recent times, Dolberg is a good fit for the Spanish giants.

The 21-year-old has bagged a total of 52 goals and 18 assists since joining the Eredivisie side in 2015.

However, the Danish international was pushed down the ranks, owing to the presence of Dusan Tadic, who played a great role behind Ajax’s domestic treble.

Dolberg is more of a traditional striker, who sticks to his pace, movement and impeccable finishing. And he’ll have no problems in adapting to Barca’s playing style, which is similar to the style at Ajax.

Unlike the Amsterdam outfit, Dolberg will get more luxury when he plays with some of the world’s finest forwards at Nou Camp.

Timo Werner

Another player Barca have rekindled the interest in alongside Dolberg is Timo Werner. The German speedster is one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe, as Liverpool and Bayern Munich are keeping tabs on him.

The 23-year-old has kept his goalscoring ratio intact over the past three seasons for RB Leipzig, with a total of 61 goals and 27 assists.

He was also instrumental behind Leipzig’s qualification for the Champions League for the upcoming season. Werner is a constant threat when it comes to counter-attacks and Barca heavily relied on Lionel Messi in terms of counter-pressing as Ousmane Dembele missed out several games due to injuries.

With the addition of Werner, Ernesto Valverde’s men can put instant pressure on the opponents. The German international also has a knack for short passes and precise finishing.

Krzysztof Piatek

The Polish striker broke into the public’s eye with his impressive spell with Genoa in Serie A, bagging 19 goals in 21 appearances.

And his wonderful form continued even after he made his AC Milan switch, adding another 11 goals to his tally. The 23-year-old also has earned 6 international caps with 4 goals from his debut since last year.

Having acquired the moniker “ EL Pisteloro II”, Pjatek is highly known for his deadly finishing technique. He ended up garnering 22 goals in Serie A for both the clubs, while Cristiano Ronaldo scored only 21.

On the downside, the Polish international is not good at decision-making which can be seen through his poor assists record. But it can be largely improvised once he opts to play at clubs like Barca.
